The video rental store near me is clearing out some of their rentals. Each rental has a box (the original) that is sealed, factory-like, but the game is of course not in it. It is in a generic box behind that, or behind the counter. I have a hunch other stores have this too, but I'm not sure.

I was wondering if this box was sealed by the store, or if they buy special rental copies that have their cartidges separate from the boxes. I am guessing the former is true. I need to know whether or not I should open this sealed box I have, which has manuals or something inside.

It probably all depends on the game itself. I actually do alot of game shopping at Blockbuster (they always have sweet deals going on), and the gamecube cases are extremely similar to blockbuster cases to the point where they can use a special "hold the dvd case shut type dohicky" in the actualy gc case instead of using a bb case (i don't know the proper term for that thing, so it gets called that). I only have Hollywood Video and Blockbuster near me when it comes to rentals (a few grocery stores, but they don't count), and I haven't ever seen their's sealed unless it is a vhs tape (I am also talking about games as well at these rental places).

blockbuster was great back when i had my 64

I used to get free cases whenever i was in there, their rental cases rocked so much more than that ghetto plastic "cap"

Generally, the rental store re-shrinks the box/case after taking out the game.

I should say that its an N64 game, Snowboard Kids 2, which I bought from a local rental store. Since it probably holds no extra value being sealed by the store, should I just open it and store the cartridge in the box?

On a side note, for some reason, when I used Goo Gone on this cartidge, it started to take the ink off of the front label. I dont think Ive had this happen with any other N64 games. Lighter fluid had the same effect.

I would. The store just takes out the game and leaves the box, at least that is what I always assumed.
