I never thought I'd be asking a question like this...

As you may know, a fanmade translation patch exists for the SNES version of Tales of Phantasia. On top of that, there is another patch, known as Vocals of Phantasia, which translates the game's voices.

For some reason, I have been unable to get this second patch to work without breaking the ROM. I have heard that the patch needs to be applied to an "interleaved" ROM, but all the versions I have been able to find are non-interleaved.

Has anyone successfully gotten this patch to do anything?

I never heard of the Vocals patch. You get it from zophar.net by chance?

o.O

Which vocals? I remember the in battle voices being in english when I played the game but I know I didn't apply two patches. I don't recall if the opening song was in english or not... but it hardly seems worth a patch just for that bit.

Actually Daria the opening quote is in Japanese as well as the theme song. Many the voices during spell casts are in Japanese too.

Yep, it's on Zophar's, but it's in the Hacks section. It is also available at The Whirlpool (http://donut.parodius.com). The official website is apparently http://topping.zophar.net .

The vast majority of in-battle vocals (which is the vast majority of vocals period, in these older RPGs) are in English (or universal grunts, battle cries, screams, etc.), so I don't see the point. I guess some people are bothered hearing things spoken in "Engrish" or with a Japanese accent. :/

A lot of it doesn't sound very English...

Anyway, I forgot about ol' UCON64 (http://ucon64.sourceforge.net), which handles re-interleaving quite nicely. All is peachy now.
