I noticed that one of my spacechase cartridges weighed about .4 ounces more than my others. So I started playing it and got killed, and nothing interesting happened (didn't see any initials). I also notieced that the label wasn't on straight so I carefully removed the label and opened it up. I also opened up another one for comparision. Huge difference in how they look, so either the heavy one is maybe an early release when they used eproms, or maybe it is monogrammed, but I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

I scanned in the differences for those who like those type of things:

The one with 3 chips is the one I'm wondering about.

thanks for any help,
Charles

superstonic,

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I have no way of dumping the roms myself. I'm guessing that it was probably and early/late release, just odd that of the 7 or 8 spacechase carts I had, only one of them was 2.4 ounces instead of 2.

I was also wondering if anyone new for sure if the way to see the initials in the game was just to let your ship get destroyed, or if something else is required?

thanks,
Charles

From what I recall it was only after your last ship got hit, not any time you got hit. Don't know for sure though, as I've never seen a monogrammed one.

It happens every time your ship gets hit.

John Hardie has one of the monogrammed carts, I've seen it in action. We didn't open it up though, I have no idea if it's an EPROM or not. I'll direct him to this thread, maybe he can give you a little more info.

I think it was a cool idea, and if I had the game back then and was as old them as I am now I would have paid for it. :)

Any idea on how many personalized carts are out there? It can't be that many.

My bad... I was recalling that ad, but my memory was faulty.

So, has John looked into the cart yet? I didn't realize he had one. Did he stumble across it in the wild, find someone who owned it, or find someone in the company with one?

Kept forgetting to reply to this topic.

The cart I have came a huge haul of protos that we got a while back.

The initials show up every time your ship explodes. I was always afraid that I would overlook one of these if I found one because I wouldn't know what to look for. Let me assure you that you can't miss it. The initials show up in place of your ships explosion.

I haven't opened the cart because that would require ruining the label.

If it anyone wants to see it, it should be in the CGE Museum this year, so just catch me and ask.

Thanks,
John

Funny, I had always pictured it being implemented in a much cooler way. That's weak.

A perfect gift for any of life's real "survivors", huh? LOL
