Found this on another forum, it is a demo of what the 32X is really capable of. Check it out.

If that footage is of an actual real-time 32X demo, I'm very impressed.

There were a number of 32X games that were scrapped that I was really interested in. X-men, Virtua Cop, and a bunch of Capcom 2D fighters. It's a crying shame that the system died before it ever really got off the ground. But then again, it never should have been released if the Saturn was launching right with it. I think the 32X had a lot of untapped potential, but obviously, we'll never really know what it was fully capable of.

Yes, that is real footage and the demo is running on a standard 32X. It makes me mad that Sega had such an awesome system on their hands, and they ignored it. Who knows, if Sega made games that looked that good when the 32X launched, they might still be in the hardware business today.

i dont know too much about all that stuff, but what if there was action taking place, like characters fighting enemies and shit like that.....isnt there the possibility that there would be a lot of slow down, and maybe the only reason graphics like that were possible on the 32x is because there is no real action taking place?

Frame rate and level of detail could probably be dropped to allow enemies or sprites, etc. In the desert demo there are bitmaps like the cattle skull. I consider the 32X's potential to be on par with a high end 486 or Pentium 90, that is to say games like Descent or Terminal Velocity.

Pretty much everything that was released had been in development before the 32X was even sold, everything else was pretty early into the lifespan of the thing as well. It really was shot down before it had a chance.

FWIW, that desert-ish part of the demo was Amok, which would later see release on the Saturn.

Yea that's what I was thinking. With al the fog and limited draw distance it looks like a lot of games I played on my 486 dx2-66 or my Pentium 90.
Looks about like Descent quality games.
Not to bad considering the crap that did come out forthe 32x and what could have been. :(

I watched that demo years ago, its been on the net for a long time, and it does look great and has many nice details, like the lens-flare and the bilinear filtering...

Is there any homebrew scene for the 32X, I mean over time I'm sure people could squeeze out juice in the 32X if given the right tools. Maybe sic GDG on the idea to compliment their homebrew SCD selection, lol.

That video was amazing. Too bad SEGA didn't utilize those effects. :o

There is a Megadrive/Genesis flash cartridge that supports the 32X, unfortunately seeing as how unpopular the 32X is (and difficult to program for what with the dual processors) I doubt we'll ever see anything.

It saddens me when I heard that Konami was going to make a CastleVania game for 32X, (rumor had it, it was a port of the PC Engine's Dracula X) but this project was canned.

The 32X had the hardware to make the Genesis do things that the SNES could only dream of...I just wish it would have been alot sooner.

I still enjoy seeing Virtua Fighter on 32X and wondering "How in the HELL did they do that??"

I downloaded the video the other day but never got around to watching it until now.

I agree, I am impressed that it could do that kind of stuff, yet it never got pushed as far, or nearly as far as it could have. But unfortunately, it was destined to fail. It was never meant to be. Overpriced and too soon.
