EA Genesis carts that...well, are not EA Genesis carts?

I just picked up a lot of Genesis games at a garage sale (36 for $5 including Toki and Herzog Zwei :-P ). I got 3 carts by EA that are not standard EA carts but the regular size Genny carts. NBA Live 97, FIFA 97, and Desert Strike. What's the story with these?

Ok, but I still have the usual EA carts of the same games. I can't imagine they would print a sports game using different carts halfway through the run. :o
