Here's a pre-CGE get together for Michigan Members (and people from surrounding areas that want to come) I've also held the invitation out to AA members also.

On August 7th around 3 ish till close I would like to hold another get together for Michigan DP/AA members but this time at Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum in Farmington Hills.

I don't know the area that well, so I didn't really have plans for "trading" but instead more of a relaxing, quarter munching afternoon.

Sweet. I'm so there.

And it's definitely worth going, you guys. They have F-Zero AX (Japanese), linked Guitar Freaks 9 and Drummania 8, a pair of DDRs, and TONS of other stuff. But if you're claustrophobic, this might be a bad place to hang out. Ha ha.

Well, sounds cool. I'll see what I can do.

Do japanese AX machines work with US version memory cards?

I know a few people interested in checking out marvins, and I SHOULD have my car and license by then, so I'll be going.

Fun fact: marvins had(has?) a machine that literally sends electric current through you. My friend Rudy played it 3 times in a row when he was younger, and stopped because his heart hurt.

I want to see him take on that machine one more time :P

Don't think so. It wouldn't do anything with mine. And the machine isn't loaded with player cards, either. Don't get your hopes up about the machine at Blaster's. It's pretty much the same way. Play it once or twice because it's a cool machine, but don't waste a lot on it without any data saving whatsoever.

Question-there was someone at the AA meet that said he'd sell me some O2 and INTV stuff next time we had a michigan meet...who was that? Cuz I want to tell him to bring it to Marvins and I'll get it from him.

Uber,

That was probably me. I have lots of INTV and O2 games, however I don't believe I will be attending the get together. I think it would be fun but I don't think my car can handle anymore 7 hr trips. :(

I would love to attend, but I'll be in Vegas that weekend. Maybe next time.

Forr anyone who hasn't been here before, this place is HUGE! Imagine half of a modestly sized Giant Eagle, then take out all the food, and throw in as many arcade games as you can without making walking impossible. They've got plenty of old arcade stuff, and by old I mean as in stuff from the first half of the last century.

There's a alot of nice game stuff on the walls, and some other old movie posters(I think I heard the place use to be an old movie theatre). And if anything steals your quarters(which DOES happen alot on the older machines), the owners almost always walking around with pockets full of quarters!

And the food ain't that bad either.

What else? oh yeah, He's got all the electric meters right by the door, with a sign that asks for some electric bill money if your not going to play any games. That had me laughing a bit.

Beware though, I remeber searching around the place, and there was some naked pictures of Burt Reynolds by the bathrooms(O_O). Yeah, nice image for a 12 year old boy to find.

Oh well, have fun who ever's going!

Cool, since I missed Pete's last time I might have to go to this, close to my house.I have a few friends that work there, should be fun.

And Marvin's is kinda hidden if you've never been to it before, you might miss it,it is behind all the other stores and such.

True. But the absolutely enormous neon sign above the alley leading to the building is pretty hard to miss. Heh.

August is a bit tricky for me, so I don't know if I'll be able to make it, but I'm going to keep this in mind.

My birthday is in mid / late August, and since I'll be 30 (*cough*wheeze*), I am going to have a party at my place. I could just as easily have a LAN party. I've got 3 computers capable of running some FPSs....

Classic gaming-wise, I have about 28 systems hooked up, a fooseball setup, and an air hockey table.

I know this is kind of a ghey question, but if I were to announce a LAN get together, or a general gaming nonsense day... Would anyone be interested in that?

Mr.FoodMonster
07-24-2004, 03:32 AM
Not at all ghey, if I had a car I would love to join you, but I have been pimping my friends out for rides to faraway places way too often. I wish I could be dazzled by a 100x better collection then mine in person, and not in pictures.

Achika
07-24-2004, 11:32 AM
Would anyone be interested in that?

As long as it doesn't interfere with the weekend of the 7th and CGE weekend, I'd be glad to take the day off and head over.

Mr.FoodMonster
07-31-2004, 01:38 AM
Because my ride is a fellow nerd teenager, its basically how his mom feels on that given day. Based on his mom, I probably have a good chance on if im going or not. Wish me luck!

ubersaurus
07-31-2004, 01:41 AM
I've told a few of my buddies about it, and they're all interested, now let's see if any of them are interested enough to remember to go.

If nothing else, I could probably bribe someone ;p

Okay, so apparently Marvin's just got Guitar Freaks 11 and Drummania 10, the newest versions. I'm going to go check it out today. So if Yashiro's not there on the 7th, I'm going to slap the shit out of him. Ha ha.

I can slap the shit out of myself just fine, and I will now that I've heard that news. SHIT.

I said it over at AA, and I'll say it here

My ride cancelled on me, and unless I can find someone really cool, I wont be able to make it out.
Have a good time everyone.

So, how was it? Who showed up? Dave, did you take pictures again?

Querjek

OH MY GOD

I kid you not when I say this... I WAS THERE BUT NOT WITH THE REST OF YOU.

I saw some guy with a DP shirt on and was going to go over and say something to him, but I figured he'd just think I was some random kid. I saw a group of people sitting at one of the tables, too, and thought, "Boy, I wonder if they're all from DP?" Damn, that's what happens when I never check this forum :/

Oh, and if any of you noticed a 15-year-old boy with long hair in the back (to the bottom of my neck) walking around, that was me (I figure some of you may have noticed).

EDIT: Oh yeah, I was wearing a dark-grey shirt with a small Futurama logo on the back and some weird Futurama thing on the front.

I could also be found playing The Simpsons game (as Homer) or playing Metal Slug X briefly :D

EDIT 2: Oh yeah, this is OT, but how do you get an F-Zero AX mahine to give you a liscense card? I forgot to bring my memory card with an F-Zero GX save (Of course, the one GCN memory card that I didn't think I'd need on vacation :( ) I played one race but I got no liscense card...

den68
08-07-2004, 10:26 PM
was the guy in the DP shirt a fat guy with glasses and camoflage shorts? if so, that was me. you should have said something, I'm used to random people talking to me.

Querjek
08-07-2004, 10:28 PM
I think he had glasses... I noticed that he was sitting at a seperate table, not with the rest of the group (right next to them, but not quite "in the huddle"). And his hair was either orange or blondish.

That might have been me. I brought the DP shirt so I'd be easy to spot in that giant fire hazard. Tan shorts, white sneakers, and Lisa was with me (the tall brunette).

On the Marvin's machine? You don't. I'm pretty sure they don't have cards loaded in the machine. If they do, it'll ask if you want to buy a card when you start, which it doesn't. And it's a Japanese machine, so don't bother trying your US F-Zero GX save, because it won't do anything. Blah.

Yeah, after visiting Marvin's once I can say that Pete's will now be the prime michi spot unless someone can come up with another worthwhile arcade.

You know, everytime I post something at AA, I should just auto post it here....
Well, AA is being screwy right now, so I'll sum it up. I think we should have some kind of Monthly meet at Pete's, because so many members live so close by that it could actually be a 'you know, I think I want to head out there' kinda deal. If someone couldnt show up, nobody would be dissapointed because its kinda like an open invite (I know you all whole-heartidly missed me today :P ) I dunno, something like a certain night, a Friday or Saturday, whatever works out the best for most of us, something. I dunno, just an idea.

orange hair? mines kind of blonde and I was with my wife.

Marvin's was pretty cool. I saw Achika, Ubersaurus and Bizounce who I'd met at Cedar Point last year. I also met XJR15. I had a good time and would go there again but it was pretty claustrophopic, a lot of stuff crammed into a small space.

American Fun Center in Oakland Mall is pretty awesome. Trak Ball Ultracade with damn near every game installed for one token, DDR Extreme for 3, Beatmania III 7th Mix, Guitar Freaks 7th Mix, and Percussion Freaks 4th Mix, all for 2. Plus they've got SC2, a slew of racing games, and all that other good stuff.

Mr.FoodMonster
08-08-2004, 03:23 PM
Well, just about the only thing they have besides Beatmania and the ultracade is the same (DDR is 4 songs for a buck, so basically the same). But, I'm always willing to try out some new arcades. If my rides dont back out, that is =P
Atleast I know I could just about always get a ride to Pete's

davidbrit2
08-08-2004, 03:43 PM
AFC Oakland is probably my personal favorite arcade in that area in terms of variety and value. That Ultracade is just so damned sexy. Mmm, perfect versions of Crystal Castles, Marble Madness, and Quantum... It's a pretty decent mall, too. There's plenty to look at while gasping for air after a few games of DDR.

Achika
08-08-2004, 04:48 PM
Oh, I have been to AFC before then. Ah...the days of waiting 3 hrs. for my film to process.

I'll scope out the local arcade here and get a running list of what they have any maybe you guys can head up to Grand Blanc at some point. Playland has a decent selection of arcade machines. Less than Pete's I think, but still more than Marvins. It's also got putt-putt and go-karts.

There's a few Aladdin's Castles around here and a Pirates Park (which is similar to Playland but diff. machines)

Mr.FoodMonster
08-09-2004, 03:27 AM
I swear, we need to do something every month. There is an outstanding amount of lower MI (upper OH) members that it would work out. Go to whatever arcade, that sort of thing.
A side note, Pete's has Guitarfreaks 11th now, and is soon to be getting Drummania 10th. I liked 11th, but they replaced 4th, and that was my favorite :o

ubersaurus
08-09-2004, 03:30 AM
I had a blast. I mean, it lacked the weird japanese games of Petes, but it had AX and alot of really cool old stuff. Honestly though, going to petes every time would get kinda boring.

There's the Butterfly arcade on Van Dyke, but I don't know...the area seems just a bit seedy. It's huge though-two large rooms of games.

There's always the possibility of holding a meet at someone's house, as well. I'd like to talk to robotron about that, since he's got a nice setup, loves having people over, and doesn't like to travel for medical reasons.

Bust a Move record for me- 0-7. I'm PERFECT! at losing....

uh.... sorry. I did have my camera with me and got a few shots of the place. I didn't take a picture of anyone though, well unless you count the picture I took of my wifes butt while she was playing Galaga.
