Well, I looked into price matching today. I went to Target, and the lady there said they have not price matched in two years or so. But she might not have known what she was talking about. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Also, I went to best buy. They said they did price match, but I needed a reciept or a "price verification" or an ad, which isnt currently available. I had some reciepts that were posted here, but they would not accept a copy. I could of used my own reciepts, but that would have been somewhat pointless. So I went to Circuit City again to try to get some sort of official price thing. They said they could not give me one, and the man I talked to gave me a really confusing explaination.
Essentially, If somebody can figure out how to get an official list of the $5 games, it may be possible to get the deal at best buy. I did not check anywhere else.
Also, if UPC codes are identical between stores, a catalouge of codes could allow the nice employees at CC to check their computers and perhaps print out "price verifications" for games not currently in stock.
Oh, I just remembered, the man at CC also said a list would be posted on their website on Thursday. I will go check now.

Most stores won't price match clearance prices. I bet Wal-mart and others will tell you to piss off. Also, most stores will only price match if it's in another store's ad AND if they have it in stock. I don't expect a lot of people will do well price matching...

It's been my experience that price matching has really dropped off in recent years. I suspect it has something to do with the popularity of internet shopping and the low prices to be found electronically.

I used to work at Target and I remember when they stopped price matching, during the after thanksgiving sale 2002. Corporate jerks changed the policy on the biggest shopping day of the year.

...and yet people wonder why businesses treat them with contempt.
"yes! i want to sell things at a complete and total loss to match circuit city's inventory dumping sale, and put up with pushy customers that think it's their god-given right to wave an internet list in front of my face, and then demand they get my merchandise for nearly free! please, take this food out of my children's mouth! oh wait, i forgot - i didn't start a business to make money, it's for charity!"
seriously, between this and people banding together to send harassing death threat complaints to atomic planet for swtiching the button configuration in MMAC, i often wonder how people are baffled by the treatment they receive when they react like this.
i'm just as careful with my money as the next guy, but really...

I'd not even have the nerve to ask for a price match, geez, far majority of the games in the list aren't even in stock at CC, considering many stores are running promotions ($7.99 games at TRU), it drives me nuts to see people getting so pushy and greedy, what they want for $5 games? To make $2 off eBay, I just won a copy of Megaman Ntwrok Transmission on eBay for $7.50, I bet after eBay fees the guy isn't making much at all, if any. Most probably thought they can make a killings on eBay, forgetting everyone pretty much knows about the CC deals.

If you are referring to me, you should no that I did no such thing as wave a list at the employee. I had a copy of a reciept that they would not take, and I was very polite. I have a strong feeling that they WOULD have accepted my normal reciepts for price matching, but you see, I already have those games. I was greedy enough with the original sale. All I'd like to do now is get some of the unavailable games for cheap.

The employees at my local stores said the sales don't "officially" start until the 11th, which is when the ads will go out. Most places will keep the ad so if you plan on price matching, be prepared with more ads if you're going to multiple places.

Well, Wal-Mart also needs the ad, because I tried to snag a Viewtiful Joe for 5 bucks, but failed. My question though, will the ad list all of the games, or will it just say "Titles vary by store"? If it says the latter, then will the employes at Wal-Mart believe my pleas for Viewtiful? They damn well better...

If it's not listed/pictured it's highly doubtful. And I wouldn't expect Walmart to bend over backwards for you either.
I was just planning on using the ads to grab a few games that local CC's didn't have. If no one accepts, that's just more money that stays in my pocket. No skin off my back, it's nothing to get your panties in a bunch.

I went to Best Buy today with 4 Circuit City receipts to see if they'd price match any of the 16 titles I bought but ironically, they didn't have a single one in stock. My guess is that someone already cleaned them out, or they got a CC list and pulled all the games of the shelves fearing that people would come in and try to price match.

I called my local best buy and they said a receipt would not fly and that i would need a prined add. I wonder if CC will really make a list on their next flyer? I highly doubt it.

Stores will ONLY do a price match with a valid print ad from another store. The fact is, if you can get a clearance game for $5.00 at one, it hurts every store that carrries it.
In fact, the store of the moment -- Circuit City -- uses this to their advantage in a shady way all the time around here. They will run an ad for a new game for way cheaper than the competition and will then conveintly "not get the shipment" until after the sale is over. You simply take your ad to the nearest Best Buy and make them sell it to you at a loss immediately, while Circuit City gets the extra people in their store.
I know this because I have picked up a bunch of computer games on release week at Best Buy thanks to the CC add when they didn't have them.
