I'm out of town, visiting family, and returning home first thing tomorrow morning. I just visited a pretty neat store in a local mall, with a boxed Odyssey2 The Voice!!!, selling for $9.99.

It's a very cool item for my collection, but odds are I'd never use it. Hell, I don't even know if I've ever tested my O2 system itself. I never really cared much for that particular console.

Considering it's in the box (I don't know about the 'completeness', packaging materials, instructions, etc...), do any of you guys think I ought to pop the $10 for it? Shop's open until 9pm, Central Time, in case I want to return.

Thanks,
Steve

Definitely get it! It's easily worth that much loose.

If you have some games that use the Voice, try it out. It could be all you need to change your mind about the O2.

Well, even if you don't want to play the O2 yourself, my humble recommendation is... BUY BUY BUY! $9.99 is a great price for a loose Voice module, let alone a boxed one. You can easily recoup the cost on eBay.

Now, the only question is: where is this legendary mall and what kind of store sells O2 stuff in 2004?

I'll be in the car with Mr. Cassidy. Go forth and get ye Voice. Hell, I'd buy it from ya for that price + shipping if you weren't going to use it - I don't have a spare of that particular piece of hardware.

IMO, any pre-NES hardware that is boxed is usually worth 10.00.

But yeah, "The Voice" for 10.00! Buy BUY BUY BUY BUY! I want it. :(

Good trade bait, although I generally find O2 stuff is underappreciated by collectors (kinda like the 3DO). As mentioned before, it could form the basis of a little O2 collection. Pretty much any classic era item boxed is worth $10, exception being the most common cartridges.

I pretty much expected the responses here, but wanted to be sure. And naturally, as soon as I posted the question, I then checked the Rarity Guide.

My doubts were due to the unlikeliness of getting a good deal in a retail store, as well as fairly high prices on other items in the store. Once I returned to the store tonight & looked more closely, I think I figured out their pricing scheme: Items that were once popular, combined with age, are priced higher than similarly old, but less popular items. Scarcity seems to be irrelevant.

SO, The Voice!!!, boxed with original packaging (but no docs), with original Sears pricetag ($79.99), is $9.99. Loose 2600 Pac Man is $5.95. Shrinkwrapped 2600 bundle with connections, 1 7800 Proline stick, and a handful of dirt-common games goes for $99.99. And boxed Sears Video Arcade II was, I think, $34.95.

I picked up the unit, and will see if I have any Voice games to test it out when I return to NJ, probably sometime Sunday evening. We're in Metairie, LA right now, and will probably hit the road for the return trip tomorrow around lunchtime.

I know there are a couple of DP'ers that pop up from time to time in this area, and you probably already know the store, but for anybody wondering, it's called the Game Trader (http://www.thegametrader.com), and is located in Clearview Shopping Center. As mentioned above, the prices seemed inconsistent to me - some pretty good deals, others pretty bad. The selection reminded me a little bit of Multimedia 1.0 in NYC. However, the store was cleaner, more attractive and pleasant to browse, and the staff seemed genuinely friendly and cool to talk to, not at all arrogant or elitist.

There were several vertical display stands strung with scores of controllers for most systems. Along the walls behind the display cabinets were boxed systems and shrinked bundles of all sorts - 2600, 5200, Intellivision, CV, 800XL, Gen I, II, III, Sega CD, Saturn, DC, PSX, SNES, N64, O2. I didn't see any NES consoles, now that I think about it, but I could easily have overlooked them. N64 bundles were about $25 with RF and no game, $35 with game - I don't know if that was RF or Composite.

There were walls of games for most systems, ranging from the 2600 through PS2, and including PC games.

All in all it seemed like a neat shop to hit occasionally if you're in the area. Just don't look for the O2 Voice module, as I already got it! :P
