At EB games website at http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/default.asp they are having a PS1 deal through August 2. This is just for pre-played games but you get one free game for two that you buy...the limit for free games is 3. I just went and ordered 12 games so I'll get 3 free ones...I think I paid $5.99 for one game, 3 games at $4.99 each and the rest were $3.99 and less. If you averaged my order out (including shipping and tax) I figured my games wound up costing me an average of $3.82 each. What did I order? At the risk of being laughed at, here they are...
Warhawk (owned it once, now i want it back)
Robotron-X
Spot Goes To Hollywood
Tennis Arena
Hardball 6
Destrega
Lucky Luke (Hey, it's a western!)
Fighter Maker
Sammy Sosa's Softball Slam (It's so reallllllll)
Pro Pinball: Big Race USA (Wanted Patriotic Pinball but they don't have it)
Top Shop
Marble Master
Some are games I'm familiar with, others I've hardly heard of. But I was due to ges some PS1 games so... :D

What is the chance of actually getting a used PSX game with box and manual from their website? And condition are the discs usually in?

Well, I'm not sure what the odds are but a few months ago, I bought about 15 Dreamcast games as part of their 15 games for $50 promotion and I did get a number of games with everything but some did come with no manual and just the original back insert and a few only had a generic insert. I guess you have to take your chances. If you like, I can report on this aspect once my order arrives...

im not sure about the chances of getting boxed complete games off the website, but this offer is also available at brick and mortor stores, so you can inspect what you are getting before you buy it at the stores

One of the problems with EB is how they display the PSX fames on their shelves. All stacked facing out with many games behind. Not the same game, all random. Instead of BOOKENDING THE DAMN THINGS like they should. Though, even if they did, you still couldn't tell what 90% of them are because EB has more none complete (Read: Insertless) copies than GameStop for some reason. It's the same at all my EB's. All my GameStops have more like 80% complete copies or at least with spines. All bookended so you can tell what it is by looking at the side. But not EB.. Nooooo.. Idiots.
But thanks for the heads up. I rarely see anything worth buying though anymore. Especially with their prices.

Of the five EB stores I frequent, four have always bookended their PSX games. The fifth store began bookending them once this latest promotion began. Your particular store may be loaded with idiots, but I don't think it's fair to use that as another basis in the never-ending "EB IS TEH SUCK?!@!" saga that we always end up dealing with. Experiences at EB, just like those at any other store ever, are going to vary from person to person. Don't knock the chain, knock your local manager.

Actually in his case it's probably the local district manager. If all stores in close proximity share the same shitty layout and organization methods it's probably because the district manger is a stupid ass and insists on everyone doing things his way.

Ah, good call. Still, he should complain about his local district manager instead of the chain. It's mostly just a tangent, but I never get it when these anti-EB or anti-Gamestop comments pop up. You can't judge an entire chain on one store (or district). If someone really hates a store so much, then they ought to speak with their dollar and discontinue shopping there.

Buy 2 get 1 free sales rocketh the house. As I mentioned in the latest weekend finds thread, I got Gekioh: Shooting King and Puzznic for $5.99 each and got Cleopatra's Fortune free, all complete.
And yeah, the local EB stores here stack their PSX stuff facing out too, but at least most of the complete cases are separate from the loose cases, save for a few people have scrambled around. I don't really mind searching through the stuff.
It's not as good as Gamestop's B2G1 sales though, but it's still a good way to increase one's PSX library.

Oh, and mine don't even sort them Alphabetical! I have to look through each and every damn one of them stack by stack just to find out they don't have anything worth buying. GameStop has them all nice and alphabetically bookended like a library. Simple. Logical. And any DM who thinks the other method is smarter is a fucking dumbass and should be smacked with a ruler by every librarian in the country just for being dumb. :hmm:
Now, not to fuel EB bashing, but does the DM decide how much higher to put their Used Game prices too? They're a large percentage higher priced than GS in MANY cases.

No, all the used game prices are set by EB/Gamestop's corporate office. Although if the DM's did set them I'm sure they'd be about the same.

EB's prices are too damn high. Period.
God, that felt good.

Odd. Here it's just the opposite. Game Stop's all messy / backwards and EB is all bookends / organized. Shrug.

Home offices. Though, considering the state of the stores orginization, I would not be surprised if the prices are wrong / outdated / never changed over. Never hurts to, you know, ask them to ring up just to check before you rip them new ones.
Also, I don't know about GS in other areas, but about 90% of mine don't even have the real cases on the rack. They're the xeroxed/printed phony fronts, so I don't even bother checking racks anymore. I just go to the counter and ask to see if they have games, then pester the clerk to check the case conditions, etc.
And if you're going to harp prices, Game Crazy blows away EB in having high prices. I've come across several variants I would have swiped except they were like $10 higher than everybody else.
To each their own area, I guess.

Then why shop there? If you didn't, then you wouldn't be so worked up over their prices and organization. I don't mean to single you out here (it may appear that way, but it isn't intended), but I still cannot understand why people complain about EB, Gamestop, etc and yet still shop there. My local pawn shop is a giant ripoff. I haven't been there in 4+ years. End of story. I *like* EB, but if I didn't, then I'd stop going completely instead of complaining about it.

For me, it used to be NES and SNES games. But even those are slim-pickens now. And since I picked over all their good PSX games, there aren't any left. All that's left is some boxed N64 games and overpriced everything used. Basically, anything not brand new is going to be a few bucks more than GameStop. I haven't stepped foot in one in a while because I know what I will find. Nothing. Because every time I've gone there in the last few months, there was nothing to get. Aside from 70% off Simpsons and Muppets figures. That was it.

Here in Portland, half of the Gamestop stores have their PSX stuff organized, and the other half have them messy and unorganized. Jasoco, you should see the PSX bin at the Gamestop five blocks from my house. LOL
And Gamecrazy takes the cake when it comes to overpriced PSX. I've made a good amount of SNES and Genny finds there, but I have yet to buy a PSX or N64 game there because it's likely I'll come across the same game a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Here we go. Case in point. Today I go to GameStop to return some games. It's a different one than the one I got them at. I go in hoping to use the money to buy Crazy Taxi 3 for my Xbox. Sadly they didn't have it. I looked around for a good 45 minutes before settling on the E3 DVD and the change.
Had they had CT3, it would have been $12.99 new. The one I got the games at (Which was further away and I didn't feel like driving that far tonight.) has the CT3 game used. But since I went to the other one, it wasn't there.
So I left and went right to EB just to see if they had that one game. They did, but for $5 more. And I paid it, because I was hankering for some Taxiing and wasn't leaving without a copy. I had to go because they had what I wanted when no one else did. And I paid the crazy price because I really wanted it.
*sigh*
It was worth it, though. Totally worth it. Awesome game.

Well, I received the package today that I opened this thread with. As it turns out, I only got 4 games that came with everything including both instruction manuals and original bak inserts:
Pro Pinball: Big Race USA, Marble Master, Board Game Top Shop, Tennis Arena.
Then I got 2 games without the manuals but with the original back inserts:
SPOT Goes To Hollywood and Sammy Sosa Softball Slam
The remainder came without manuals or original back inserts:
Warhawk, Fighter Maker, Hardball 99, Lucky Luke (yah, a western!), Destrega and Robotron-X.
Thus, if you were only going to order from this promotion if you were pretty certain you'd get everything complete...I guess this offer may not be for you. I pretty much knew that coming in based on a previous order or two so I'm not too disappointed, especially since I got some games I haven't seen around very often.

I forgot to mention the quality of the discs since Daria had asked. I haven't had time to play any of these yet so I just glanced at the discs themselves and they seem fine...some look practicallyl brand new while others seem to have some minor marks I doubt will affect gameplay. I don't think I've ever gotten an unplayable game from EB...
