I throw this article out for the usuall bashing, stomping, and blasting that most articles here get. :D

Cool article!
It's nice to see more women developing games. Hopefully they will be able to bring some fresh and innovative ideas to the table. I'm getting tired of seeing 75% of newly released games being sequels. x_x

I saw that yesterday when I was going to check my email on Hotmail. :P
It's actually a very interesting article, which is unusual considering it's from MSN. It makes it sound more hopeful that I can get into the industry. Although, honestly, I don't know if I cound bring in ideas that men couldn't. I know they don't want "pink fluffy kitties", but I don't think I could really bring in a "woman's viewpoint" on story development, how female and children characters are portrayed, artistic vision, etc. I wouldn't make a game like Manhunt or Duke Nukem, but on the other hand, I have absolutely no problem with the games I grew up on and the games I play these days, despite that most of them are made 100% by men. I don't feel like the games aren't targetted at me, nor do I feel like anything about the game is unappealing to me as a woman. I may play some cute games, puzzle games, and RPGs, but I play an equal amount (if not a greater amount) of platformers, shmups, and other genres that are considered "men's territory". These are the kinds of games I'd like to make (as the article said, people like to create games that they personally like to play), so I question if I'd bring a truly "new mentality" to game developing.

Maybe we'll see some steamy romance novels... er, games with muscular men/buxom babes on the cover.

I guess that's a question for Danielle Bunten Berry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Bunten).

That would be a very good thing, if we are talking about 1-6. ;)

Was thinking something similar. At one point, Sierra had a decent contingent of female game designers (Roberta Williams, Jane Jensen, Lori Cole, the one whose names I don't know who designed other stuff like Colonel's Bequest and Conquests of Camelot).

Not bad considering considering the company was founded by Williams and her husband. :P

Hey, dammit, what's wrong with Ruby?

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that 'Skies of Arcadia' had a mainly-female development team.

That is true as I believe about 60% of SoA's staff was female.

We need more female minds like Roberta Williams. With the founding of Seirra her and her husband birthed the adventure genre. Creating such favorites as Kings Quest, Space Quest, Leasure Suit Larry, Police Quest, and my favorite Heros Quest (name changed to Quest for Glory after legal issues).
But all good things can't last forever... that which is given shall be taken away... Once the Williams gave up creative control of Sierra it marked the end of the adventure genre.
Although Lucas had some noteable attemts with the Monkey Island Serries or Full Throttle, which has to be Lucas Arts BEST adventure game.
Roberta where art thou...?
