I'm looking on eBay for VMU's, specifically ones that hold a lot of data. ANyway, I came across this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8117271262&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

It looks pretty good, considering it has 400 blocks, uses no batteries, and seems to have a screen on it like a regular Sega Brand VMU. But the fact that it uses no batteries makes me think it's not good in quality, even though it says High Quality Naki Brand.

So, please help me out, and tell me if this memory card is any good. If it is, I'll be getting it. Otherwise, I might get this one instead: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41055&item=8117941492&rd=1
So I might also need to know if this one is any good.

Thanks.

meh

First off, batteries are not required for VMUs. They save and display data just fine without them. You only need batteries if you want to use the unit seperatly from the dreamcast. eg, file transfers, or to play mini-games.

I always steadfastly recommend avoiding any third party memory cards. If you really want high capacity, go with the official Sega 4X deal. Its what I use and it hasn't failed me yet in over 3 years.

Also check that guys shipping rates....pretty high for a memory card IMHO.

I concur. I have the Sega 4x memory card and it's never failed me. On a related note, the only 3rd party memory card I've ever heard recommended for the DC was the "Nexus" one, as it had a cable available for transferring saves to and from a PC. This could be increasingly useful as many of us don't have a dialup account anymore that we can access DC sites with (to get VMU downloads, etc.). Using the Nexus card is the next best (and in fact, better) thing.

Ok, thanks. I am definitely thinking of getting one of the Sega Brand X4 VMUs, but right now, 20 bucks is out of my price range. I've heard from others, they've been able to snag them for 4 ot 5 bucks, so I'll have to check out my local EBGames.

Check your local TRU. If they have any left, an official VMU is only $2.48 (or $2.98...I can't remember)
