View Full Version : What Good PS1 Games Have Come Out The Last Few Years?

I recently bought a dozen games from EB Games for the original Playstation and some of them are games you don't hear about too often...Marble Master, Top Shop, etc. It makes me wonder what other good Playstation games (PSOne if you prefer) that have come out in the last year or two that I might like to track down. Any suggestions? I'd prefer games that are exclusive to the system and not games that also had counterparts in the current consoles such as Harry Potter, various sports games, etc. I did just place orders for Creatures...
I still need to get Devil Dice...

I still need to get Devil Dice...
I just picked up Bombastic (sequel to Devil dice) for the PS2 last night. I didn't get a chance to play it though. Devil dice is a great game though it tends to be a little too easy at first creating long games but it never gets boring. I highly recommend it for those who enjoy games which are off the main path (i.e. not FPSs or sports games). Another one which you have probably heard about but did not come out recently is Intelligent Qube. I find that to be one of my favorite PS1 games. I am still trying to get IQ Final, every time I see it on eBay the auction has already ended.

Thanks...I do have Intelligent Qube. I got that when it first came out and I still enjoy pulling it out from time to time. I'd not heard of IQ Final...

Turnabout and Tall: Infinity are my favourite late PS1 releases so far.

The last PS1 game I bought was Final Fantasy Orgins.
I doubt I'll get anything else, either.
Which reminds me, it looks like we're seeing the last PS1 games released in the next few months. Madden 2005 and a few bargin titles. Not bad -- 10 years of support. ;)

Actually, I think it's 9 years of service...didn't the PlayStation debut in September of 1995? Nine years is still pretty good, though...
I actually went searching and found an online copy of Tall Infinity for $5...so I ordered that. The same person also had a copy of Patriotic Pinball, a game I'd thought of picking up before, so I grabbed that also.
Earlier today I managed to order one game that made DP's Top 50 Playstation Games list, Xevious 3D/G and some other games that probably range a bit in quality including that Sea Monkeys game, Sheep Raider, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 3rd Edition (what can I say, I dig game shows) and Cleopatra's Fortune. I ordered Creatures and then found out IGN gave the game a 2.8 rating on a scale of 0-10...oh well :embarrassed:

It came out in Japan in December 94... which is when I always take the existance of the PS1 from...

Ahhh, my bad...I hadn't even thought about the fact that it had obviously been released in Japan first...

The Italian Job is one that comes to mind (And its nothing like the recent ones for current consoles or based off the recent movie).

Turnabout
One Piece Mansion (OK, maybe that was 2-4 years ago)
Gubble - so help me, I like this game if I'm in the right mood
Builder's Block
Sheep
Taito Arcade Classics (JP import)
Gatchaman: The Shooting (JP import)
...and others I can't think of right off the top of my head. Still lots of fun to be had with this machine, and now that it's not Sony's profit center, some quirkiness and innovation is finally slipping through. That's not a slam against Sony, just a sigh of relief that the PSone has escaped the "Everything must be 3D!" bubble.

Shooter Space Shot is good. Gekioh shooting king, and the port of Three Stooges are both pretty fun too.

I do have Qix Neo and The Three Stooges. Though I specified that I was intrested games in the last few years, I really am interested in any good games I may not be familiar with, games I may have somehow overlooked in the past. Of course, if they're out there and relatively cheap, it doesn't hurt. :D

I liked Gekioh Shooting King and Mobile Light Force. Two cool shooters for $10 apiece is always good with me.

Thanks...the past few days, I've ordered over a dozen games, several of them for the PS1...I'll probably wait until they arrive and I've checked them out before I order any others but I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

@Leo_Ames: Turnabout is a cool puzzle game where you have an enclosed gameboard onscreen that contains a number of marbles. You rotate the game board 90 degrees at a time (L/R) to get the marble to touch a like-colored "jewel"/block, thereby solving that puzzle/screen. Later boards have obstacle blocks that slide around & mess you up. It's really addictive & fun.The game has an editor to modify existing boards for others to play.
My niece played it over an hour once, & we were all yelling, "helping" her solve the boards. My dad & brother, both non-gamers, thought the graphics & music were really cool too. Pick it up for $10- well worth it!

Regarding "Builder's Block", someone also mentioned that in another thread (the one about when the PS1 will die) so I went looking for that. I found one copy at Ebay...priced at about $40. Then I went to Amazon.com and found that several copies were available through their "Amazon.com Marketplace" sellers for $10 to $20 and I ordered one of those... :-P
