Is it greatest hits?

Very common.....the non greatest hits (Black bar) is slightly harder to find. And if the discs are not white (instead silver) then you got greatest hits discs with a non greatest hits game. =D, so if you're buying it from a place like gamecrazy they will probably just give you whatever cds they find on the shelf. If you get it somewhere like a pawn shop it's probably exactly what it's supposed to be.

Despite the fact I'm sure it was produced in large numbers, I found the PC version of the game sells for good money. I sold mine last year for $50. And FF8 PC goes for even MORE. :)

If it's the original version AND sealed, BUY IT. Stupid fans will pay a ridiculous amount of money for the original version sealed on eBay. The PC version is also worth getting.

If it's the Greatest Hits version or open, don't bother, unless you want the game (I personally found it really mediocre for an RPG).

I'm sure this has already been covered in another thread, but one reason the PC version goes for so much is b/c a) you can mod FF7's midi soundfonts to make it sound even better than the PS1's music, and b) FF8 has a few cool extra features like the ChocoboWorld mini-game thing. Besides that, you can run each one in 800x600 mode which beats the console versions any day (even if the background textures are still sort of low-res).

Those fanbois probably want a high-def rendering of Tifa's boobs.

The games aren't as good as, say, The Bard's Tale or Fallout or some other real RPG, but I remember liking FF7 back when I finished it.

Nah, it's not rare in the least. And it's not a particularly good RPG, or even a particularly good Final Fantasy, either.

Really common. But as already said because it's so popular a sealed non greatest hits version is good for over $100 on ebay.

Is this even a serious question? Somehow that smiley looks sarcastic...

It's my 2nd favorite final fantasy so definitly nab it if it's cheap and you've never played it. However like stated above, it's only resale value is if it's original and sealed, or the PC version.

Probably about what you paid for it. It's dirt common.

You could probably make a slight profit off of it. A year ago I sold a complete, worn (but still pretty nice), non-greatest hits copy for about 15 bucks.

Likewise, a sealed copy of the Greatest Hits version can bring in 15 bucks as well. I saw one at Circuit City during the sale, but I didn't feel like putting in the effort.

I had not heard of this explicitly. Do you have linkage? I also imagine that the PC version has substantially better load times.

FF7 PC was rereleased at least once, in a regularly-shaped box. Not so for FF8 PC.

That's true, I recall seeing two version of FF7 PC -- the first one was a white box with the same cover as the PSX version, and the second one was colored with a different picture (I think it was Cloud sitting on a bike). I had the first one, which is probaly why I got good money for selling it. The game was put out by Eidos.

FF8 only had one release -- same cover as the PSX version, done by Eletronic Arts this time. I'm sure a lot of copies of this were sold, but not as many as FF7, which would explain why I got REALLY good money when I sold mine. :)

Both PC games have better load times, yes. FF7 has noticaly better graphics, and FF8 has a mini Chocobo game you can play to get extra items to drop into your game. Both also have much better sounding music, and you can use either a gamepad or keyboard to play.

Nah, it was purple, and it was explicitly labelled as a rerelease somehow (the "Best Sellers" series or some other trite epigram). I think the picture was Cloud standing in front of the Planet.

I didn't see that one in very many places, actually.

FF8 PSX has the Chocobo World game in it... you just need a PocketStation.

I grabbed one when they first came out because it looked cool. Too bad this is about all that uses it. Supposedly Street Fighter Alpha 3 has the support, but the code to release it was never released by Capcom.

It even has its own icon on the PS2 menu too 8-)

Hrm? You mean Harvest Moon: Back to Nature?

How does it work? I never heard this before...

Oh yeah, Ridge Racer 4 has a use for it too.

Daria

Yup. Know of any other Harvest Moon for the PSX- erm... wait... There's for girls too isn't there... *coughs*

Anyway I asked my source and apparently he's an airhead.

ztaKxileF: X: You told me Harvest Moon works with the Pocket Station right?
ObsidianGunner: I didi?
ObsidianGunner: -i
ObsidianGunner: I might have
ObsidianGunner: I don't remember
ObsidianGunner: All I remember is SaGa Frontier 2 having games for it

Guess you'd have to google it for more information. I've never researched it myself because I don't have a pocketstation yet.

Linkage is everywhere - "Final Fantasy Soundfont" will yield an abundance with google:

http://www.telusplanet.net/public/sturner/fantasy.htm

was just one of the first ones that came up. Incidentally, FF8 also has several Soundfonts. You need a SoundBlaster card to use them.

RE: load times on the PC version...what load times?

FF7 was released several times. One of the versions was in the semi-pyramidal box (the same one that Thief I & II were released in), and another time in a "Platinum Hits" version. I'm not sure if there were any more.

The cool thing about ChocoboWorld is that you can really jack up your GFs with the items you get, especially once you level-up. Once I got some crown that gave a "+60% magic" skill that I used on Quetzalcoatl - whichever character had that did some serious damage with spells. Not that it mattered much when the enemies all leveled-up with you and you could use GFs pretty much as many times as you wanted...

Wow, someone feels the same way about it that I do. I couldn't stand FF VIII.

And no, it's not rare. It's likely one of the most common PS-X games out there. It seems pretty much everyone has it.

Well, I'm allready well known on this site as being a FF8 lover. ;)

But I was talking about the PC versions. FF7 was VERY popular for the computer when it came out, and I'm sure a lot of copies got sold, which is why I was surprised I could still get such a good price when I sold mine.

FF8 did'nt sell as well as 7 did, of course (for either PSX or PC), but I've seen sales figures that indiicate it sold quite fine for the PC. Again, I got even MORE money for my copy of the game then for 7.

Both games for Playstation are quite common and not worth much money at all unless they are sealed.

And yeah, there was some load time for both games. Perhaps on a 'modern' computer there would'nt be any. FF7 PC game out in 1998, if I recall correctly, and FF8 PC in 2000.
