With the current wave of old Nes games coming back on the GBA, i began to wonder about the blank carts where you can stock GBA roms and then play them on you GBA.

Do you think i could be possible to alter Nes roms so you could put them in blank GBA carts in order to use them with your GBA ? That way, we could play with NES games that aren't supposed to be rereleased on the GBA.

What do you think ?

What you want is a flash cart. There are numerous emulators for it. You can play almost any nes game with one of those.

A bunch of online stores sell blank carts but you're right, it's illegal.

Selling or owning the hardware itself is not illegal, but rather what you DO with it. People with the proper knowledge of coding can go make their own homebrewed games on their computer and use the flash card to play them on their GBA's which is all perfectly legit.

Most of the time though, the carts are used to play commercial games that have been ripped and uploaded to the 'net. This is where you start crossing the line. The carts come in various sizes. The older ones were 125 mb and now they got some that are 1 gig. And they make several emulators that will let you play NES, SMS, TG-16, and Sinclair Spectrum. You can even code MP3's to play on them.

Is it tempting?
Yes.
But just remember that when someone does this they are taking why from the companys that make the games.

When I first got my GBA SP I looked into the flash carts but for the good ones you're looking at $100+ for the cart and linker that connects to your pc. Anyway with most GBA games the prices are so low that it's almost pointless. Besides I gotta have my B&B (book & box) with my game. :)

Hope this information helps you.

I didn't mean to say that owning blank carts was illegal. But like you said, once you download games from the net, it becomes illegal. Besides, i'm like Grimbal, i like to have the original packaging.
