Hey guys! apparently my 3DO system is on it's way. My seller's last words after informing me it's been shipped we're something like: "Don't get your hopes up on 3do, it also goes by the name 3d slow. The load times and and frame rates can be quite taxing one's patience"
I was just wondering, do you guy's agree? I don't have much of a problem with that but I just want to be sure he's not just saying that so I don't Email him back asking "What's wrong with my 3DO?", is a perfectly working 3DO as bad as all that? What exactly should I expect in the frame rate/load times area? Thanks guys! :D

Depend which game of course. Blade Force is really smooth and Super SFII loads really quick. Killing Time moves like crap, and I really can't think off the top of my head what loads slow. FIFA is a bit slow to boot, but that's about it.

I;m not sure if it is OK to ask this question, but I understand that the 3DO plays burned games. Does anyone know of any place that images can be downloaded? Is there a newsgroup for this or anything? If it was not OK to ask this them I'm sorry.

Yeah I know were you can download the images.

As for the real question I haven't had any real frame rate problems, burn games or other wise, on my Goldstar 3DO.

There are some slow loaders but that was pretty much the norm in the 3DO's heydays. I can't recall any 3DO games I owned that loaded as slow as Mortal Kombat for Sega CD.

As for framerates? Can't really recall any games I played that really slowed down except the demo for Warhammer (I think it was called Warhammer). Everything ran as fast as it should but you may experience a feeling of "slowness" with certain games because of the perception of pace. Need for Speed was fun but didn't have the sense of speed but then I'm kind of a race junky on modern systems so I know where that perception is coming from.

I think you should be fine. I think he is just trying to prepare you for how crappy the 3DO games are.

The load times vary. They're on the whole a little worse than PlayStation (1). Frame rates vary even moreso. There are rarely issues with the 2D games and the 3D ones done well, like Wolfenstein, Blade Force, and the Shockwave series hold up just fine. You WILL find lots of sluggish, disappointing titles in the library, however.

This mini-3DO guide may help.

I just got my 3do a few weeks ago. I'm not really big on framerates so unless it is obvious I gues I don't notice a slower frame rate. As far as load times I would say it is better than the Sega CD.

There is a newsgroup however the posting is very minimal at times. You can look at www.newzbin.com to see if there is anything currently posted in the group. It doesn't look like there is anything posted currently.

There are about 15-20 titles currently on torrents, of course as with all other emulation you will need to have an original disk in order to download an image. :embarrassed:

I can't stress enough to avoid the 'Adult' titles when you start collecting. They may be useful to complete a collection but they are absolutely pointless for gameplay or even for viewing puirposes.

@classic gamer: agreed!

Thing is, most 3DO games are so cheap that it's really worth buying them unless you really have no intention whatsoever of collecting for the system. Some of the tougher titles like Lucienne's Quest or Dinopark Tycoon are worth finding an image for, I suppose.

I almost forgot that during my research in April I screen capped nearly every game, including lots of imports. It might help you figure out what the games are like. Most of the screens are also attached to the database.
