When I get a new game (a new USED game, that is) or system or accessory, I always clean it off. Not just the connectors, the whole thing. Even if it doesn't look dirty. It might just be some obsessive compulsive habit I have.
I was wondering if others did the same thing?

I don't clean anything unless its really dirty or doesn't work. I can understand why you would clean it though. You never know what might be on their. I think I'll clean my carts from now on.

I clean it only if it bothers me or doesn't work. Like the mega man 3 cart I bought at my nearby SHITTY swap mart....god I hate that place. After getting the leaves out of it and scraping out the mud, I then cleaned the hell out of the inside until the discoloization kind of faded then proceeded to play and after a few tricks or two it worked, and the mega man 3 intro song started up. My most successful cleaning ever...I brought that cart back from the dead.
Yes all my games. No matter is its a cart or a cd it is cleaned! But I'm running behind. :(

I'm really careful as to make sure that my cleaning procedures don't harm the object; I make sure I don't scratch strip or discolour and take extreme care with labels. With that caveat in mind I clean all my stuff in particularly anal manner.
Dirty cartidges mess up systems...

LOL!!! well i only clean when it's dirty or doesn't work well, but my homie does the same as you, even if it looks new he'll clean it, it's a fetish i think, he does it with everything almost.
I always hear him talking about it, "just bought some neo geo games but there still in the cleaning process!!" puts them in a bucket with cleaning stuff and leaves it in for a days orso and then dries them.....too much work and not to forget too much waiting before you can play! @_@

Games I clean so they won't make my systems dirty. I take systems apart, clean off the dust and grime from contact points and wash the plastic parts carefully.
I even do this for stuff that I'll sell/trade, it's like my calling. ;)
Most of the stuff I find in the wild look hideous, like someone would've eat, puked and then pooped on them. I can't just see myself touching other people's feces.

I've been cleaning all my used games, but recently I've been finding that my systems are having problems playing even the cleanest looking games. A co-worker proposed that it might be a film from the cleaning fluid I've been using (some stuff bought at Gamestop). Those of you who have been cleaning regularly for a while and haven't had any proplems, what are you using as a cleaner?

I clean everything I get from "the wild". I too am not into touching other peoples poop either. :)
I consider it part of my process when buying a game, they ALWAYS get cleaned before entering one of my clean systems.

I clean every cartridge game before I play it. I don't want to damage my consoles.

I clean every game (save for CD games, unless problems arise)
Systems are another story..those are cleaned inside and out. I dont know how the person or persons who owned it before me took care of this system, so i clean it inside and out to remove any crud or dust from the inside.

I clean used games first thing when i get home with them or games that need it. I use this solution you can buy at radio shack for about 10 bucks (forgot the name) and it hasn't failed me once.
I just started cleaning my games and systems a few years back when i started collecting. I remember looking in my snes cartridge slot for the first time after owning it since launch and seeing all the lent and dirt all in there yuck. X_x

I clean everything that I get religiously. My common cleaning equipment is: a toothbrush, isopropanol, Goo Gone, a security bit screwdriver set, Q-tips, a soft white eraser, fine sandpaper, and compressed air. There are a few other chemicals and tools that I'd like to add to my tool bench but I've gotten all of my stuff working again with what I just listed.

I clean all of my games when I get them. Sometimes, I have a pile of 20 games waiting to be cleaned before they go into the collection.
I also usually try and clean all of my games once a year.
Systems also get a good inside-out cleaning.

Wow, I guess I'm not the only one. I usually only use water. An old SNES cleaning kit on catridge connectors. And either lighter fluid or goo gone on sticky stuff.
Also, for grimy systems, that powdered bleach stuff (Comet, Ajax, whatever) works really well. Makes them look new.

I am almost obbsesive about gettng stickers and sticker gunk of carts and discs. Rental carts are like the bane of my existence.
Alcohol really does the tricks. Though I still have no idea how to get those annoying Blockbuster disc shields off of some PS1 games. Any ideas?

I clean everything I can. I take systems apart and wash the plastic off under water, or alcohol/water mix. I don't play around with the motherboard or anything.
As far as games go, I clean the carts outside with water/alcohol mix and q-tips/cotton swabs. I would take them apart but I don't have the security bits, so I never have tried. There's ONE NES game where I feel if I get a 'bit', I should open it. I remember dirt sticking out the space between the halves of the cart ...in the opening (like dried mud).

I always clean every game off. I wipe down the outside of the cart with a damp disposable wipe thingy, and then I clean the comtacts with alcohol and a q-tip. If the contacts are so dirty that the qtip never looks clean after wiping them, then I take the cart apart and clean the contacts that way. But I never bring anything home and just stick it on the shelf no matter how clean it looks.

Goo Gone and Rubbing Alcohol are my best friends. I use a standard run of the mill universal game cleaner on all cartridges from the wild before I put them anywhere near my machines. CD's I leave alone.
On a side note, I bought a CD Labeler kit and it came with disc wipes that are scratch removers. My copy of PSX Burning Road has music that skips, so I tried it out. Smelled kind of "woodsy" and the remover wipe was somewhat warm to the touch. The polishing cloth was felt oily. Worked fine and the CD looks good. Used the other one on my problematic Saturn VF & DC VF3 TB. I recommend them for light scratches on games that aren't quite "collector grade" or those that refuse to work.

Whoah. Look at all that ass--er, I mean, at all the anal-obsessives.
I clean stuff if it doesn't work. Or if it smells bad, or is sticky, or if I got it from Captain Wrong. There's a reason he's called that, you know.

yup...every preowned item i buy gets a good cleaning before it goes anywhere near the rest of my collection....i dont want the dirt getting on or damaging any of my good stuff...plus, stuff looks nicer when it is neat, clean, and new looking

I always clean off the carts i recieve before they ever enter my systems. I just don't trust what some people put their games through.
