i got a copy at the VGS this past weekend. it's not bad. i'm not a big price guide kind of guy though. anything is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. if the price guide tells me a game is worth 10 bucks and i really want it and i've had trouble finding it i might pay 50 for it.

I guess it's hard for me to be objective about projects like these. I'm really happy that our team is able to assist with this magazine and we're all hopeful that it will take off!
Still, objectively speaking it's a great mag. Even if you're not a fan of price guides, the magazine delves into game reviews, collection highlights, imports, homebrews, and all "across era, across system". I mean, what's not to like about that? I really enjoyed the non-guide segments of the magazine and truly feel that it could stand on its own without the pricing.
I won't get too much into the price guide aspect, I've been through this explanation a million times. Read the preface to the prices and you'll find that these are not to be taken as literally as people take them. It's a very general thing. If a price guide tells you its worth $10 they're not telling you to buy it for $10. They're not telling you to sell it for $10. It's a guideline. A game may be worth much more than that to you if you care to play it, or much less if you don't collect for that system - or collect at all.
The idea is that these guides provide you with an estimate of the game's value using as much real data as possible. You may be on the high or the low end of any given set of data. You're NEVER expected to be dead center on every one. It's that simple.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the future issues. It can only get better, and it's off to a great start!
