Good shootemup games

Similar to my other topic about good RTS games, I was wondering what some good shootemup games were. The two dimensional kind. For example, King's Knight would count, Star Fow would not. I got into this genre after playing Life Force recently at college, which was an old favorite of mine.
I have of course heard of Radiant Silvergun, but I have no real was of experiencing it, without experiencing paying way too much money.

BTW, is it excessive to bring 8 systems (9 if gameboy is included) to a dorm room??

All the compile shooters are good. Zanac, Power Strike 1 & 2, MUSHA, Robo-Aleste, Zanac X Zanac, Space Megaforce, Blazing Lazers, all great games.

Border Down was sweet, Mars Matrix is pretty cool, Donkey Kong 3 is bizarre but pretty fun, but probably one of my all time favorite shooters is Galactic Attack on Saturn. The game is fantastic, and it's sequels, raystorm and raycrisis, thought good, couldn't compare. Soukyugurentai was awesome as well, I'd say it's better then Radiant.

Old school shooters rock too. Beamrider, Turmoil, Galaga, Time Pilot, Xevious, Space Invaders, Asteroids, River Raid, all rock hard, in damn near every format they showed up in.

yes, dorm rooms are easy for people to break into and steal shit. your best bet it to stick with emulators, either with a pc or mod an xbox

There are lots of good shooters for Genesis. Try em all LOL
