A BIG METALSLUG AND NEO GEO PROBLEM

Hi i have a real big metal slug problem

I want to play a metal slug at home having enjoyed the arcade version so much(metal slug 2) but .......

1. I cannot have a neo geo since the prices are tooo high thats AES and MVS
2. The neo geo pocket colour version the only i can really afford is shite
3. The ps2 and xbox versions are not out here in the Uk and i simply will not buy a new console and pay import fees to play 2 or 3 games ( for that much i can get a AES)

4. ive heard metal slug x for the psone (the only really availible to me) is shite.
5. I only want to play this on my TV i do not want it on my pc
Unless there is mame for xbox so i can play it when i go round friends but really i dont wanna

I did read your post, and your earlier one, rambling on and on about playing Metal Slug 2 and blowing 75 bucks on the arcade when you could have just spent that on a bootleg MVS cart. Economically a modded X-Box and MAME is going to be the best value compared to fiddling with anything that isn't a straight-up computer and emulator.

In which case you are thoroughly out of luck, or you need to start surfing the net and look for a place that will ship a version to the UK instead of wanting people to hand things to you. Yes you do have a problem. You've backed yourself into a corner my friend. The stipulations in your post basically eliminate ALL your options, you're just left shooting yourself in the foot. So I would say, Mr. 'Metal Slug Fanatic', either shell out the money to play it on a console, AES MVS PS2 Xbox, whatever, or emulate it. those are really your only options

Metal Slug X is very fun. A redo of metal slug 2 I do belive. Worth picking up. Load times are long though play it on you ps2 if you can with the fast load option turned on.

The PSX Metal Slug and Metal Slug X are alright. There alright games but do have some loading. I'm sure they might be missing some frames and some other minor stuff but there the only cheap alternative that you have. Also if you have a DC there is a Neo Geo CD emulator but I've never played it. Yes X is a remake of Metal Slug 2.

Sigh, to use fast load option: start you pos2, hit triangle for version information screen+, triangle again for playstation driver settings, press x on disc speed and change to fast, exit out and start game*.

+Note this may not work on your playstation2. You may have a diferent version then me.

*Note you will have to do this every time you shut you PS2 down, it reverts back to original settings.

Since I'm probably one of the only folks here who will not tell you to use the emulators, I'll try to offer some helpful suggestions.

The MVS cart of MS or MS2 will cost you $50-60 usually. $75 for a boot? MSX MVS carts go about $70 authentic, so please, don't condone the use of boots as they have been probably one of the biggest downfalls in the Neo Geo world. Unfortunately, to play that cart you'll need either:

1. Consolized MVS = $400
2. Supergun + MVS board = $300
3. Cabinet = $300-400 + shipping
4. AES system + Phantom-1 converter = $350

So, no matter how you cut it, it ain't cheap. BUT.

Get the MVS setup and then you can play ANY Neo Geo MVS cart, which are all pretty cheap and you get the real experience. No matter what any of the emulation kiddies tell ya, it's not the same. These games were designed to be run on MVS hardware, so they run best there, especially in RGB or S-Video.

My other suggestion? Go to www.neo-geo.com and first use Search on this topic or post in General Discussion. I know the topic has been covered there too.

In my post I implied how much he could have saved by buying an MVS cart over feeding an arcade cab, legit or not. It was more a jab at his brilliant spending habits to emasculate any standing of his aloof attitude than commentary on the pocket economy of Neo Geo collecting.

I'll back D-Lite up. I've played MSX on PSone, emu on my Xbox, and on my AES (modded for S-video) and it ranks thusly:

1) AES (By freaking FAAAAAR) MVS would be the same deal BTW

2) emu'd on the modded Xbox (even using Xbox RGB [component], it is still inferior to the AES using S-vid)

3) PSOne (ugh-- it's mostly there, sounds crappy, looks crappy, but it's better than no Slug at all)

Another problem with the ps version of MSX (besides the framerate,music ect.) would be that fact that sony censored the game and decide to put white blood in it. O_O I fail to see how metal slug is more violent then some of the fighters or shooters for the ps.

This is a genuine question, no flaming no shouting etc, etc, but when did make fun of your identity?

Callin people names! isn't gunna get you anywhere, by all means we can be friends, but how can i be your friend when i see you ranting and raving!.. Metal slug is a sweet game / and series!.. but it's not the only video game in the world... there are tons of great titles for the PS2, forget Metal slug for now!

I think what people are trying to tell you here is under the limitations you posted, you have no options. Wishing really hard or yelling at people who offer you alternatives isn't going to make a Metal Slug magically appear for your PS2. You wanted to know your options? Your cheapest solution is not to play the game at all.

Now if I were you, and I'm thankfully I'm not because I'd hate to go through the rest of my life as a fucking asshole, I'd get myself a scan convertor so I could display the game running off an emulator on my PC on my TV set.

That's probably your cheapest option if you absolutely have the have to have the game displayed on a tv set. And even then it's not that cheap.

Otherwise go without the game, if you're not willing to buy it you don't deserve to play it.
