The family and I head off to the beach friday night and as usual I pack up one of my video game systems and about dozen games to play on the big ass tv at the beach house. Normally I take the PS2, Eye Toy and a few of my multiplayer games but this time I packed up my Saturn and about 10 imports and domestic titles.
When we get home tonight my son notices that systems around the living room tv are spread about and the Xbox is missing. Our first thought was that our oldest daughter came over and got it to play but then I noticed that my PS2 was missing from my bedroom and my games were strewn about the bed.
A quick inspection of the house revealed that we had been broken into and the PS2 and the Xbox had been stolen along with 6 out of my 20 PS2 games, my sons paintball gun and my wifes PDA.
Immediately my wife was on the phone with the police and an officer promptly showed up to take a report.
We all had a good idea who may have done it and my son was running around to his buddies in the neighborhood to see if they knew of anything.
One thing lead to another and the kids we suspected were being ratted on by the neighborhood kids and the best part was that they were at the park with a gym bag filled with the some of the stolen property.
The police sprung into action and rounded up the kids and recovered my sons xbox and his paintball gun but the PS2 stuff and my wifes PDA is still MIA.
The good in all this...
FINALLY these kids are going to jail! THAT FUCKER MESSED WITH THE WRONG FAMILY!
My 12 year old son got all his stuff back. He was PISSED as you coulld imagine.
The bad...
Well my PS2, network adapter and 6 good games are gone as well as my wifes PDA. Probably no hope in recovering that stuff but it is easily replaced.
My memory cards are gone! ARGH!!! (these also contain Eye Toy photos of the family for identification purposes if needed)
The feeling you have after people break into your house. YUCK!
In the end the thieves are a couple of dumb ass teen age kids who went for the flash of a PS2 and Xbox and totally overlooked all my classic games, thank god!
I think I would be more devestated if my classics and imports and Nomad or Saturn would have been stolen.
I still can't believe how stupid these kids were. They left all but 6 of my PS2 games!? :hmm:
And unless the new owner of MY PS2 has a component capable tv they wont be able to use my ps2 until they get a set of composite cables
The latest word from our officer is the kids have admitted to the crime but won't fess up to where the PS2 is.
I don't know what I can pass onto you guys about keeping your collections safe but just remember that it could happen to you so take precautions and catalog your stuff. Also record serial numbers.

I'm guessing this is a kid that has a history of pulling crap like this on people?

Yeah he's been a problem for quite some time.
Sad really but he's just a bad kid on a bad path and his family can't or won't do anything about it.
Well hopfully this will set him on the right path. Just make shure you don't go easy on him.

Damn that really sucks dude, it's really fucked up when others go in your home and steal stuff...I had it once too, they stole my bike,cd's and some money, not much but still. Your lucky that you got some stuff back, the ones who did it must be punished heavily, assholes, they just don't have better things to do.....I never saw shit back, that's the worst. From now on my house is secured...better save then sorry..

Sorry to hear what happened.
If the kids won't tell where your missing stuff is, tell them you're going to file a small claims court case. It sounds like you have PLENTY of evidence and can at least get money to rebuy the stuff.

Well at least you did the right thing about it. I am extremely paranoid about getting my stuff stolen and would bust a head or 2 if I got anything stolen from me. Nah, just kidding, but it feels like I want to.
My problem is that I think I trust people to be my friends and they are not. I know numerous people that I will lend games too, and then I never hear from them again.
My solution was good though. I called this dude's mom and told her what happened, and I went to pick up the money personally to rebuy the games. For some strange reason, I have never heard from that guy again.

The feeling you have after people break into your house. YUCK!
I know how you feel. While I was away in the Navy Both of my parents houses (home and a vacation house) were broken into in the same year. I lost quite a bit of stuff but it was nothing compared to what my parents lost (antique family silver, my grandfather's rifles and shotguns, plus much more).
The one thing that makes me smile about the home which was broken into is that they took almost my entire collection of sports cards. All the valuable cards/sets could have fit into a small moving box. Howwever being the packrat that I am (as I'm sure most of you are too) I still had 6-7 monster boxes full of commons. Anyone who has collected cards should know those boxes must weigh at least 30-40 lbs each. So the funny part is the jackasses wasted their time hauling away nearly 250 lbs of crap that I wouldn't have been able to get 5 bucks for.
On your feeling of being violated, I understand very well. It just makes your stomach turn knowing there was someone in your home thaqt you didn't know about. It takes a long time before you can go to sleep at night peacefully again.

sorry to hear about you getting some of your stuff taken, man.at least your son got his xbox and paintguns back.thats more than what most people get back after having there house broken in to.i think it really sucks that people cant keep there hands off other peoples stuff.everybody should live by the rule of"if it is not yours, dont take it".but sadly, some people cant live by those rules.i hope the little bastards get whats coming to them.

Man, I can't even imagine the rage I would feel if I found out the bastards who stole from me. I hope you recover all of your stolen property but hey, at least the dumbasses left all the rare and classic stuff behind, LoL. As well as 3/4 of your PS2 games.

man thats bad. One thing that would suck about someone breaking into your house when you have so much stuff is that you might not know all the things they stole.

man...that sucks...make sure you use the law to your advantage and use the evidence you have in courts to try and get the money back to buy some new items...and, be happy that you got some back and that no one was home....if you were and they tried...the kid might have done something stupid....as long as your family is safe, thats all that matters....games can be bought again

I'm sure you guys have homeowners/renters insurance, so it should be no thing to get your items replaced, but getting robbed is never good. At least the kid is caught and will hopefully thrown in jail. We had a car stolen a couple years ago (recovered a couple weeks after halfway across the country) - it's amazing how little punishment these Ali Babas get. If you don't use force, it's rare to get a year in jail. And we have it good - the punishments in other developed countries (esp. parts of Europe) are ludicrously small. Count me among those who think retribution should be part of justice.

Man, I've been there, I've had stuff stolen out of my car....had my car broken into. It's a sick feeling knowing someone has something of yours, something you worked hard for, and they just take it.
It's like morals are completely out the window these days. If it's not chained down they'll take it. But what gets me is the IDIOCY of thieves. They left 6 of your PS2 games? WHY? That's like when they broke into my car to steal my CD player they left a huge stack of CD's Why not just take it all if you're going to take the risk?
What's really bad is the fact that you get uncontrollably mad, but can't do anything about it, that's a pain.

Well here we are in early March and we have received nearly $800 in restitution from the crimanals who robbed us way back in July.
Both kids got a severe warning from the judge with a threat of jail time if this happens again and orders to pay restitution. We've replaced most of the items they've stolen with the money they've paid.
I still hate leaving town for a weekend because of what they did but at least they were caught and punished and we have been able to replace much of our stolen property.

Ah, I like to hear about people paying for their crimes. Literally.
Glad you managed to get most of your sruff again .. but that feeling is hard to shift though.
I haven't been robbed, thankfully .. but have come very close. I was about to go out for the day, and we were sitting in the car when I suddenly had an impulse to go back and check the house.
Went back, it was fine .. but I still felt weird. Went to check that the back door was locked, which I *knew* that it was .. and when I drew back the curtain there was a guy in the back yard with his face right up to the window of the back door .. a local junkie that I vaguely recognised.
He started bullshitting something about having been chased and had to climb over our wall to get away, and told me to let him in! Of course, I declined, and my freind picked up the phone to call the police, at which point he cleared off.
And when it was my graduation, my family came over and my brothers stayed in a friend's flat that was empty over the summer. And in the middle of the night some guy climbed up (to the third floor), let himself in the window and made my bros carry all the goods out of the house
These things tend to bug you somewhat for quite a while ...

Good they paid you, even better they didn't steal anything irreplaceable.
I got my fraternity house broken into senior year. They stole a bunch of other people's stuff.
This was at the height of my collection, probably $30k worth of rare/import stuff in my room, expensive japanese electronics ($800 DAT walkman, $600 MD unit), it was just burglar heaven. What'd they steal? QUARTERS. They stole SIX DOLLARS IN QUARTERS.
I guess they just didn't know what any of it was. They left the PS2/Xbox/Cube alone though. Morons.

I know how it feels to get broken into. Unfortunately, we were not able to find the motherfucker that broke into my family's home. He stole a laptop, a digital camera, and several thousand dollars worth of cash and jewelry. Most of it got replaced from insurance, but the insurance company was unable to insure cash. . Well, glad things worked out for you for the most part.

I've always wondered if on other message boards, such as a "Rare Exotic Fish Lovers" board , if they have conversations such as...
"So someone broke into my house, they stole about 20 old Nintendo games, some Playstation 2 games and a lot of those old Neo Geo games, nothing really worth anything. Thank god they didn't touch my rare 1600.00 pair of exotic South Seas angel fish....Stupid criminals never know what the good stuff is! LOL "

Why do you keep all that in a frat house?
Just asking to lose it all.

Hey dude at least the Xbox was recovered! I would flip if Anything of mine was stolen. It would take until the next holiday to replace it unless the thief/thiefs were found, And then i recovered my items.
Maybe they hid your PS2 in your own house where you wouldn't look, Where they could get to without setting off the alarm?

know what its like,
I had some stuff stolen from me on the bus (like 80 dollars worth)... I found out who did it, and he even admitted... needless to say, I made his life a living hell... I beat the crap out of him, and my friends beat him up too (he stole a lot of stuff from other people too) and we toilet papered his house a few times after he stole my stuff... he finally moved away.. thank god.. taught him a lesson.
It is a really bad feeling, i must say... when i found out all my stuff was missing... my heart sunk... terrible feeling.
my neighbors saw a moving truck pull out of their driveway when they came back from vacation... and there was so much stuff stolen from their house, the worst part was, they stole so many things from their 6 year old daughter.. which must have felt really bad... though i think they were reimbursed
glad that u were fortunate enough to get ur stuff back..

I'm sorry to hear about the stolen merchandise. All of my ENTIRE COLLECTION was stole back in 1996. Hundreds of games, I beat the living HELL out of Tim (the guy who did it ), but all of my games were gone (sold to a pawn shop or some such thing).
I would hate to have my home ever robbed again, but I would LOVE to catch the little shits. In fact if I'm ever visiting Ohio again soon I think I'll beat the dog shit out of Tim again just for kicks. I still know where he lives  !!!!
