One day on Ebay I happen across an auction for 50 or so EGMs. It only had one hour left and no bids. So I bidded and won the auction. Included in this auction was issue #3. The one with the cover of Wizards & Warriors 2 on it, and that cover featured Fabio before he was well known.

A couple of weeks later he ends up at my local Sam's Club for a publicity tour for his clothes. So I say what the hell and took the mag up there and now I have handsigned EGM #3 of Fabio. Not the most valuable piece in my small collection but definitely the most unique.

So hence my question -- Have anybody else had these kind of linked events in their own collecting history?

Lol, what kind of reaction did he have when you showed him that 15+ year old picture of him dressed up like Conan?

That's what I want to know!

A buddy of mine had his EGM #3 signed by Fabio back when the issue came out. He was at some mall and people were standing in line to meet him (ALL women, except for my friend). Needless to say, he felt a little funny standing in line. People were giving him real funny looks. If I remember correctly, Fabio said something like, "Oh, I remember doing this," and he may have chuckled...don't remember.

Oh. BTW, that was probably right around the height of Fabio's fame, not when he was unknown.

Fabio is the man, he took a goose to the face. AND LIVED. By extension grimbal is equally awesome. I'd really like to hear how he reacted to the request as well, wonder if he cringes on the inside everytime someone shows up with W&W2 stuff.

I usually have this odd karma thing with ebay and game shops.
In other words, I'll hunt all day at one, have no luck or see only high prices, and then by a fluke happen upon on at the other for like $3. :)

Lately tough, it's been customer to sales associate linking. For some reason if I just happen to strike up a conversation with a co-worker about some random game, the next 3 people that walk in are looking for it. The other day is was Gitaroo Man, and the week prior it was Command & Conquer for PS1.

Wacky stuff.

I was reading on here a couple weeks ago about those pirate N64 shaped controllers with the NES games on them and was wondering what those were like. Then last week I found one at the local thrift store 3 blocks from my house. It was only 75 cents so I thought I'd check it out. it says 76000 games... wow I paid less than 1/1000th of a cent per game... haha

One time, just as I was walking up to a garage sale, the game Star Soldier for N64 just randomly popped up in my head. and lo and behold, there it was at that garage sale. Spooky, yes? LOL

Would have been cooler if you had had the NES cartridge for him to sign. :P

thats cool that he did sign it. i see some 'stars' are AHs when it comes to signing something old or not of their current contract or other such BS.

very cool.

He did chuckle when he saw it. He was quite happy to sign it for me. He said he was one of the first real people on the cover of a video game (at the time). At that point I was the only person who brought something for him to sign. Everybody else were just getting these stock photos that he would sign when they came up.

I wanted to get a picture of him signing it but they were charging for photos and also would not take a picture of him signing.

And yes I was the only guy standing in line.

BTW, the store no longer carries his clothing line.

LoL, I think that is pretty damn awesome, especially that he remembered and signed it for ya.

For about 2 years, Jack Bros. was the last cart I needed to complete my US Virtual Boy collection. I kept getting outbid on Ebay for complete JB carts (usually selling for $80-$90...always *just* under my max bid). Anyway, I finally managed to work out a trade with someone for a complete JB cart. I gave him a spare Vectrex of mine and I was pretty happy with the trade until a week after I received. I found a complete Jack Bros. at a Goodwill store for $1.99. :o
