Do you have to do any modifications to the carts/system?

you'd pretty much have to buy a convertor or mutilate the console, SNES cart shells are just too big to fit into a SFC. considering how cheap and common SNES consoles are theres no good reason to do it, assuming you live in the US.

See with a US snes u can break some tabs in teh cart slot (dont know which ones) and play snes jap games a trait shared by the N64
The US SNES is better for this though as you don't have to make any changes on the case, the SFC's cart slot would have to be heavily mutilated to fit US Games and the few units with this mod I've seen were... Disturbing to look at.

You might be able to open the US carts and stick the bare PCBs into the Jp SFC. I don't know though.

I will try that. See I know somebody selling a super famicom but no carts to test it. All I want to do is test the system to see if it's working.

Yep, you can put just the PCB in. Just make sure you put it in the same way it was in the cart (with the chips facing the back of the console, IIRC)
