It is indeed a pirate hack.

It took some digging but in EGM 44 from March 1993 in the letters section they talked about this game. It is an unlicensed version that was produced in southern Asia. They include a screen shot of it and it's pretty poor looking. Interestingly the article states that Capcom had licensed the game to a Nintendo third party to make a conversion but as we all know that never happened. Also they stated that the max size of the game would be 4 meg. So you can imagine how bad it looks on the good ole NES.

There are actually a couple of SF2 pirate ports on the nes. I've tried one in cart form but the rest I've only seen via emulator from gracious rom dumpers.

Anyway, you might think they'd be fun to try... but after a couple of minutes I think you'd change your mind. The control is 100% piss poor. They pretty much suck :P

Oh how right you are. Too bad I didn't read this earlier, I would have saved myself some pain.

If you thought the SF2 pirates were horrible, you should see the ones for KOF '9X (anywhere from '95 to '99)

Granted I've only played both pirate-types through emulators (the SF2 pirates and the KOF pirates) but I must say that as bad as the SF pirates are, the KOF ones are 100,000,000x worse.

And then there are a couple of MK pirates, of varying quality (one I've played wasn't half bad, in comparison with the others, which were utter and complete crap right down there with the KOF's) and none of which feature fatalities (that I know of)

I have that same exact Street Fighter 3 cart.....I'm actually quite fond of the game. The graphics are very well done and the controls, although not fantastic, are passable (not as bad as some of the pirated SF's that I've heard about). A lot of fun with 2 players, but the CPU is extremely difficult in 1P mode.

For some reason, I have a strange fascination with 8-bit pirate versions of games that appeared on more powerful systems. Hell, I've even bought a few Fami games off this very seller.

There was also a Mario pirate cart (it was Super Mario 5 or 16 or some crazy number) from the same seller that was going for about 50 pounds last time I checked......I think $100 for a pirate hack is a bit excessive myself.
