Just fix it. If you get another one it will probably need a new pin connector anyways. For a while nintendo was giving away pin connectors(about a month ago?) Or the problem may be with the power supply(ac adapter). To take the thing apart, you could use a flat head screwdriver to pry the top off.

OH and the opening that you flip up to put the game in, i just call it the cover

We would need more info as to why it wont work(is the screen blinking? etc) to properly diagnose the problem

Replace the 72 pin connector. They sell replacements on ebay and some online stores. I do recommend buying a toploader though.

Fixing toasters is annoying but cheap. Toploaders are significantly more reliable, I have one to back it up, but command around $100 if you have the cash get it, you'll be happy you did. If you want to fix it, I would not recommend glue it will be harder to get apart, find some screws or use tape to hold it together. if you don't own a cleaner there is a trick that will work (not as well) but it still works. Find a crap game that you don't care about and clean it and then stick it in the system for a few seconds and then pull it out, do this several times and clean it each time. It won't remove the sludge and fine dirt but it will usually pull out a lot of the heavier dirt and improve the operation. I do suggest getting a true cleaner when you can. Clean the rest of the system with game cleaner if you have it, rubbing alcohol if you don't. Q tips can be a pain to use on circuit boards because they leave behind fuzzies, I usually use a very soft toothbrush. If you live by my motto you should get by just fine in the life of playing nintendo "frontloaders never stop working, but they never work right."

Hope this helps.

If you're a gamer, find and refurbish a toaster nes, then clean it regularly.

If you're more of a collector, buy a toploader. IMHO Toploaders suck and are vastly inferior to toaster NES. Especially considering their price, you shouldn't buy one unless you're a NES completist.

IMHO, you should get a toploader. You can usually find them for around $70 give or take, and you won't have to worry about cleaning them. People always complain about the vertical lines of them but you can hardly notice them (well on mine at least). I got mine for $50 and it was the best money I've spent on a console.
