for the older pre cd stuff aka NES, Genny, N64 is it easier to buy the games loose and then find the boxes/instructions/maps separate or is it best to go for the complete stuff from the start? I realize this has somewhat to do with personal preference so personally I am a completist meaning I go for game, instructions, box, and any maps or other add-ins that come with it. I've always bought complete stuff, but I was wondering if it was easier/cheaper to go the loose route and complete them at a later time?

Appreciate the help

Dustin

Well it all depends on luck really. I can guarantee you are going to have a hard time finding things like maps...I've been lucky finding stuff around game stores in my areas but they always seem to be the hardest things to find. Manuals are pretty tough as well, but get even more tough of course when it's a rarer game. I've picked up around 2000 snes boxes and 300 genesis boxes from a closing down game store and it's still hard for me to complete most of my games for those systems. Just get em complete from the get go.

You'll find tons of incomplete but hopefully cheap stuff in the wild which you just have to grab. Trying to find boxes and manuals for even these loose games will be a huge drag as -hv- mentioned, so if your eBay-desperate for something specific, make sure it's complete from the start.

If you're going for complete games, but picking up loose ones, you'll end up buying every game twice. Boxed games are hard to come by, orphaned boxes are even more scarce. The one good thing about 'upgrading' a loose game to a complete one when you find/buy it the second time is that you've always got fresh tradebait, kind of like having a revolving door on your trade-box.

My advice is to make your ultimate decision about 'completeness' EARLY in your collecting days. You don't want to end up with a thousand loose carts and then think to yourself: "You know what, I think I want to go for complete games".
