I'm from Edinburgh. Been collecting for a wee while now, mostly SNES and GBA but am now expanding a bit. I don't know of a single person in my area who collects as well, it gets a wee tad lonely sometimes although I do have what market there is to myself :D . My girlfriend just doesn't get me when I get all excited when I get something new she just pats me on the head! It would be nice to share the fun with others...

There's me of course, Thomas Holzer, I used to have the biggest VCS collection in Europe.

I lived in the UK for 17 years and I loved England especially for video gaming. I started the fanzine 8/16 in 1987 (for ST and XE), which lasted 6 years. I have written articles in many fanzines (Retrogames voted me 'Best Writer of the year'). I had 53 letters published in many UK gaming magazines, and my gaming collection extended to over 1000 (Not now, I had a good clear out) original games.

I recently moved to France, and I won't be returning to the UK ever, so I think I don't count anymore.

Yeah, there's other boards that are full of UK/European collectors - NTSC-UK, Rllmuk (does that still exist? Don't think I've been there since the Great Edge MegaJet Purchase a few years back ;) ). Lots of folks on Assembler too...

We used to run Britmeet (britmeet.co.uk) every summer - so the UK CGE claim to be the first in the UK is patently bollocks.

I think we may be back next year ;-)

It just shows you! I thought I was the only person from Scotland here until I posted a topic asking for Scots to come forward. None did but I was informed there are, indeed, other Scots around here somewhere. I wonder which natioalities are only represented by one person here...

Its a shame the uk dosent seem to have really massive retro shows like you lucky people in the US have.

Although i have very few items that could be classed as retro i do like old videogames

I live in the deep recesses of the South West, collecting mainly Sega stuff 16 bit upwards, though I have a SNES, N64 and VCS that get some use. The Mega-CD is my personal passion - 8 left to get a full PAL set! Sadly most game stores except "Game" have yet to move this far down the country...

Also where do most pf you get your stuff from? I still find that the boot sales in my area are pretty good for finding stuff. In the past couple of years i've found tons of stuff.

I got the same problem as you. There are a few dealers at the car boots i go to you are always trying to grab the games. Just yesterday i missed out on a snes with super bomberman 2, starwing and super return of the jedi for under a tenner. The woman who bought knows that i go for the older systems and she stood there smirking at me as she bought it. I've seen her buy a megadrive with a bunch of games for a fiver and then try to sell it on her stall for £35 at the same boot!. I don't mind though, i managed after haggling with her at a different boot to get Mario allstars, Mario kart and Mario world 2 Yoshi's Island off her for a tenner. She probably paid a pittance for them though.
I do notice however most of the dealers in my area tend not to even look at N64, Dreamcast, Saturn or Snes stuff. I've seen them just walk by without giving them a second look. They always go for the playstation and megadrive games. Anything they don't recognise they just walk away, which on one instance meant that i bagged a boxed virtual boy for a fiver. Oh how i laughed at them that day.

To be Honest i don't go to car boots like i use to, but when i did i got sum really nice finds!.. and not always Gaming stuff!..

But one of my last finds, was a US snes with 11 or 12 us games and 2 or 3 converters, for a £5 that was very, very nice!! when i gave the guy a fiver, i asked him to hold onto it. ( So i didn't have to carry it around ;) )

Later when i went back, i picked my stuff up, he said he had this little carry bag thingy, for £1, it was a Gameboy carry bag with a nice clean GB and a handful of games as well as a light and magnifer!! :-P

I rarely see any Atari Lynx stuff. Hell i've only seen maybe 3 or four upclose before and two of them where broken. And up until 4 months ago one of them was nailed to a wall above a collectors stall in a local market!
Anyhow i bagged some more stuff this afternoon.
Art Alive, Megagames 3 and Sonic and knuckles for the MD, a mark 1 master system, bad dudes versus dragon ninja and double dragon for the nes, Laser ghost for the MS and finely a Teddy Boy Sega card for the master system 1. I havn't seen one of these cards for nearly ten years.

I wouldn't mind a retro dealer at a car boot sale, that would be fine. Someone with lot's and lot's of old skool stuff, priced accordinly, great. It's the people that play at being dealers that I don't like. That just stick stupid prices on the few video games, and refuse to haggle, it's a car boot sale for goodness sake! And the amount of people that try and sell DVD's from poundland for £5 beggars belief, altough I have to smiles sometimes, cos I often see them trying to sell
to me stuff which they have bought at the local auction house, which is often stuff that I put in to sell. LOL

God i see loads of dealers here in wales at the boots trying to sell those damn poundland DVD's for a fiver. Some have tables covered in them!
I've also now got some competition at the boots. I was talking with son of one of my dads friends about my games collecting and how i sold stuff on ebay. I sometimes buy a system even if i already have it just to get the games that came with. I then usually sell the system on ebay keeping what i want. Anyhow yesterday i saw the guy at a boot pulling all these saturn games out of a box. I rushed over but he had already grabbed a mint copy of Virtua Fighter kids. In desperation i bought the whole box of saturn stuff (£12!!!!!!) hoping for a few finds after he walked away. Luckily I got a few games to bulk out my collection and i finally got hold of a offical backup memory cart(boxed)!!! I've decided now never to tell anyone else about my hobby.

I fact one of them I know lives just a few streets up from me (about 2-3 minutes walk away) and another lives in the downstairs flat (though he's more of a casual collector) I'm collecting PAL Saturn stuff at the moment mainly (Lynx/Jaguar though not as hardcore on those) as well as anything else that catches my eye really

I think I more than qualify for inclusion!

I'm from Ipswich, Suffolk, and collect pretty much anything - So long as it's factory sealed!

I don't claim to have the biggest collection around, but I will claim I probably have the best condition collection for the things I do have! I believe it's not quantity that counts - It's quality!

And i'm pretty sure I am one of the biggest collector's in Ipswich. One of mind - Not "THE" biggest (Although I believe I know of at least three other people who could possible claim that title!)

Wouldn't really trade anything (As my stuff is perfect) but would definately be interested in paying cold hard cash for anything that takes my fancy...

I'd definately be interested in a simple "Show and tell" though!
