How 'bout the use of Vectrex in the movie Android? It was used as a low-budget special effects device. Not only is it shown playing the Star Trek game, but Mark Indictor even did some custom programming for certain scenes.

CyberRoach.com has some nice pics (among other cool stuff)here (http://www.cyberroach.com/videomisc/videomisc.htm).

In American Beauty, Jane (Thora Birch) is briefly seen playing what appears to be a Game Boy Pocket.

Mallrats had a Saturn playing the first Sega hockey game for the system-I don't remember what it was called. On the DVD commentary, Kevin Smith says they wanted to use EA Sports' game but Sega was supposed to promote them on some tour. Later he did use EA Sports' game in Chasing Amy, but I don't remember which system and game it was.

In the Toy Story films, the toys play a fictional system that looks like it was based on the SNES. Toy Story 2 starts off with Buzz Lightyear in a video game and features a subplot of the dinosaur toy finding a strategy guide to beat the game, which helps the real Buzz fight the main boss (since the game was based on the toys).

You may be interested in this link, which shows arcades in various movies: www.mameworld.net/movies.

Don't forget the best Game Gear cameo of all...Surf Ninjas. Not only can it play games, but it can fight evil too. LOL

Also I don't know what game, but weren't they playing some Extreme / "Action" Sports game in xXx (Triple X). Yeah, I saw the movie, but only cause it was free. ;)

EDIT...and we can't forget the Wizard. So many games in that one, and the big showing on SMB 3. :D

Anybody seen Juvenile (2000) from Takashi Yamazaki who also directed Returner (2002).

Anyway, in Juvenile the main kid learns to pilot a mech via his PS2 and later the little robot he constructed in the future builds him a real mech for him to battle the aliens which is controlled by a PS2 controller.

Cute stuff and worth the watch if you're into Japanese flicks but it's very much a kids movie. :)

Bring it on(what? http://www.ewbattleground.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/shifty.gif) Some kid is playing Twisted Metal 3, before his sister comes in and ruins his game, which he responds by saying".....bitch!"

Waynes World has Sonic 1 beta playing in the background, to Yars Revenge sounds.

And that crappy movie with The middle child from Home Improvment and Checy Chase. The kid was playing Virtua Fighter in the arcade.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial - There's an Atari 2600 easily visible in the family's living room, although it never gets played (maybe E.T. cannibalized it to build his communications device).

"Power Glove - No matter how exciting they tried to make this in ads or in that lame Fred Savage flick "The Wizard", the power glove was really only good for pretending you were a cybernetically enhanced Michael Jackson, grabbing your crotch in a bionic frenzy and . . . oops . . kinda got carried away there . . ."

Another Jet Li movie, with an odd looking Virtua Fighter cab in the background

Blood Sport with Van Damme, he's playing some arcade Kung Fu Tournament game with the guy from the "Revenge of the Nerd" films as "Ogre", whom ended up playing "Zangief" in SF the Movie

I didn't see the movie, but I'm pretty sure the game was on the Game Gear.

Other TV game cameos:

- For years, Drew had a Saturn on The Drew Carey Show.

- MacGyver can be seen playing Great Ice Hockey on the SMS with a regular Control Pad.

- On at least one episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, there was an NES, possibly with Genesis controllers (don't quote me on that).

In Charlies Angels, 2 kids are playing Final Fantasy VIII AT THE SAME TIME!!!

Maybe this dosen't count, but there was an 80's movie in which a guy travels backwards/forwards in his Cessna with a Commodore 64!!! If any one knows what movie it is, please let me know.

In Biker Boys, they're playing PS2.

All the movies I can think off have been mentioned (I was going to point out Charlie's Angels and FF8, but someone allready got me on that! :) ).

But TV shows -- in several episodes of Boston Public they showed kids playing both original Game Boys and Game Boy Advances.

Come to think of it, I think Buffy has had them in them as well.

And what the heck was that silly move about babysitting from the 80's called? I'm almost positivie one of the kids was playing a arcade game early in the movie.

Oh, and Parenthood from the late 80's also had a great line. :D You don't actually SEE it, but in one of the scenes the mother is calling up to her kids upstairs "And make sure you grab your grandmother -- she's busy playing Nintendo!" LOL

I've just watched SF: The Movie, I know and heard it was bad, but I finally had the pleasure (or displeasure) of watching the crap, OMG, it's incredibly bad and stupid, I'd be so humiliated to be any of the cast (even supporting cast) in this movie. I can't believe they can get so many famous actors into the cast, such as Byron Mann, JC Van Damme, Damian Chappa, and Raul Julia.

I don't think any of the movies based on a video game will be much better, the fact is, games are based on fantasy, not reality, and those 2 should never mix. The same can be said about most games based on movies (Judge Dredd, Cliff Hanger, etc)
