TRIBES WEEK: It Has Begun!

Heads up, gamers!

A few weeks ago I asked "What Clan Are You?" to solicit some common (and even uncommon) ideas about what game company you'd support should you support just ONE.

Take a moment to think about which "flag" you will be waving during the week, should you choose to participate. These will come in the form of standardized avatars that you can link to directly from here:
http://www.digitpress.com/images/tribes

This special forum is now open, the basic premise will be to support your favorite game company. In some cases you will be judged on your "fanboyism" via your written skills. In others, you will be given points based on a variety of pre-set situations (example: be the "nth" unique tribe to post in a particular thread), much like the hidden challenges in many of today's video games.

You won't get points for +1 posting, however :)

And you'll be "thrown off tribe island" if you flame others for their love of the system or console they've chosen. It's all about sharing why your choice is best, not why others' are worst.

You will quickly find out that having many others in the same tribe has an equal number of benefits and pitfalls. The fun will be completely balanced so that regardless of your allegiance you'll have an equal shot at winning "stuff".

Yes, it doesn't quite work with the contest alas, no matter how cool the avatars are.

Sniderman as well but we've already talked and he knows he's essentially out of the running and just being an Infocom fanboy for fun :)

I don't mind other tribes being mentioned but for the sake of the Tribes competition only the companies represented on the avatar site will count. There's a good reason for this but if I tell you it totally gives away how it works, and people are going to have to figure it out on their own ;)

All right, a few questions...

1) Do I have to pick a tribe that I actually feel is the best developer ever? I find it more of a challenge to argue for something that I don't necessarily agree with, and may want to do that.

2) Can we explain a little how points work? I'm thinking about being a real odd-ball like N-Gage (see #1 ;) ), but if I have to actually convince others that the N-Gage is the best manufacturer to score points, I would pick a company I can argue points on a little better.

3) Is there a listing of who is involved in which tribe? I'm curious both to see how many people are associated with stuff and who my future tribesmates might be.

4) I'll be out of town and away from a computer on Sunday. Will that greatly affect me?

I think that's about it. This is one of the first ones of these that I'm really interested in being involved in, and it really seems like fun! I'm pretty pumped!

Color Dreams all the way for me.

I suppose people may think I'm just being damn stupid by choosing color dreams, but I have my reasons...

1. Back during the NES days, some of my greatest times ever had were playing Color Dreams/Wisdom Tree (subdivision of CD) games. We werent the richest family on the block so we'd pick up cheap games at Toy Liquidators. Some of my faves were...

Captain Comic - My absolute all time favorite Color Dreams game! Oh boy, I think I spent day after day playing this and loving every second of it!

Bible Adventures - Despite being a religious game, nothing was more fun that picking up all those animals and taking them to the ship! 3 games in 1! :)

Other than that, most games were great (IMO), and I loved the blue carts!

To answer those questions as best as I know:

1) Every company has equal chances to succeed. Choose ANY one you feel comfortable with.

2) I'm certain there's more than one contest available over this time. The single one I'm keeping score on will not be explained. I will simply announce in threads when people have gotten points. Participation = Opportunity.

3) This is a good idea... Don't know how to do it, but I'm sure there's a way.

4) I can't forsee how any one day would preclude the ability to get points. Unless there are day-only contests that are going to be put into it, in which case DigitalPress is a better person to ask.


This is all that I know. As I said I'm pretty sure other competitions will be held during this, there just happens to be a big one that I'm keeping score of, is all. The point is to have fun so pick a company you really like and have a good ol' rompin' time.

As long as you have an avatar that CLEARLY shows your allegiance, and has the company's logo on there I will allow it. This is where it gets a bit fuzzy, someone has a Gamecube logo and we're doing software companies. So that I'd ask to change to something that clearly has the Nintendo logo on it.

If you want to make things really easy on me though, just stick with the ones on the main site. POG put in some serious effort for them so It'd be nice to see them used.
