View Full Version : Why I love Konami!

Konami cared enough about me before I was old enough to understand. Konami has helped me through life, even when I didn't bother to realize it. But looking back, I know that Konami cared. I know that Konami wanted to see me succeed in life. I know that Konami loved me enough to teach me what I need to know.

Konami taught me never to give up. I hated Konami. I really did. Contra was too hard. I was lucky to get to the end of the waterfall without throwing my controller at my tv. But Konami knew that would happen. That's what's so special about Konami. They knew that I would get mad and throw my controller at the screen. But they also knew how to draw me back; how to get me to give Contra "one more try". And try I did. Konami taught me to never give up, and now that I've beaten Contra without dying, I can look back and see Konami looking over me, guiding me and teaching me what I needed to know. Thank you Konami!

But that's not all.

Konami has taught me to feel good about myself. I was as scared as anyone to play Dance Dance Revolution. Especially in front of everyone at the arcade. But Konami knew that would happen as well. They knew that I'd be afraid. But they knew how to call my name; how to get me to put my dollar in that DDR machine. And it worked. I put my dollar in, and sure, I failed my first song, but I came back for more. And now, I'm not afraid to play DDR in front of anyone. Even though I'm not so great at it, I can see Konami's plan. They knew that I'd be drawn in, and that I would boost my self-esteem to unimaginable levels. Thank you Konami!

But that's still not all!

Konami has also taught me to forgive and forget. Sure, I wanted a good sequel to Zombies ate my Neighbors. And I really wanted to like The Adventures of Bayou Billy. I really did. But Konami isn't perfect, and I had to come to grips with that. I had to let that sink in. And in some ways, I think Konami helped me to realize that none of us are perfect. We have to forgive each other for those faults and put those things in the past. We have to move on, and not hold that grudge over something as silly as Bayou Billy. Konami, I forgive you, because in your failures, you've taught me another lesson that can only enrich my life. Thank you Konami!

I could go on. Konami has helped me to lose weight (DDR), caused me to lose sleep (Silent Hill 2), made me happy (Gradius/Contra), and made me angry (Gradius/Contra). But Konami has been there every step of the way.

I guess it can all be summed up in one simple statement:

"I love Konami because Konami first loved me."

:embarrassed: Perhaps I should read next time (paragraph or less)! Sorry gang! I'll cut it down if you'd like!

I love Konami because they've got guts. Serious guts. Who else would make games where:

People flail around with their feet, and you can tell the really good players because they look like they're having a seizure
One of the boss fights is a floating mind reader in a gas mask who telekinetically throws office furniture at you
"The future" means controller port 2
The commanding officer you've been talking to for the entire game doesn't really exist
The serious threat of terrorism is leavened with the occasional cyborg ninja
If somebody who could fix broken doors entered the town, he could make millions
Depending on the game, saving either means hearing a Shakespeare quote made somehow relevant to the situation or chatting with your girlfriend
I need scissors! 61!
The advanced AI behind the entire scheme quotes TS Eliot at you

And, lest we forget, their games have included:

The best argument for being an organ donor ever.

And that's why I love Konami.

Even though this isnt my pick this week, I will say that it was a close second, and heres why.

Contra was THE FIRST NES game I ever played, and it was over at my uncles house. I could never get very far, and never once made it past the 2nd level. Although, I did manage to find out about the original code, 'Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start' I beat the game after finding that one out =D. Also, for them making Bemani. I love all the games, and I also rock at most of them. Go figure!

I love Konami because games like DDR, Guitar Freaks, and Drummania have resurrected the Midwestern arcade from the throes of death, and brought back the '80s mindset of competing for the highest score. That's a hell of a feat if you ask me.

Who can resist shooting at penguins in pirate suits while you are an octopus wearing a pair of panties on your head? Surely not me.

Two words: TWIN BEE

God, TwinBee owns me. o_o I have the TwinBee series to thank for taking me from being a casual shmup fan to actively searching out more for my collection and discovering lots more cool ones. I don't think I would've fallen in love with Dragon Spirit if not for the similarities to TwinBee.

Well, I do have Choaniki to thank for my interest in shooters as well, but that's another story...

If the Castlevania series was the only set of games that Konami ever produced, it would still be worthy of its own clan.

Konami is another one of my favorite companies. I absolutley love Castlevania, Goemon, Gradius, Parodius, Twinbee and Suikoden. I haven't been able to get into Metal Gear though. I'm not a stealth person. Maybe it's from playing one too many Megaman games, but I wanna shoot everything! I can't not shoot those guys, even if they are going to set off the alarm!

I have to say I'm a fan of Konami for their great game music they gave us over the years, especially those made by the Japanese VRC6 and VRC7 sound expansion chips for the Famicom system that made them sound 16 bit.

BTW, my screen name (Lord Contaminous) is Konami related

Hey if Konami were to make another DDR game with just music from many Konami games instead of J-Pop, what do y'all think they should put on there?

I love Konami for redefining the Survival Horror Genre and makiing sure they are the masters of Classic Horror (i.e CastleVania and Silent Hill)

Plus, what other company will tell you this up front "WE LOVE OUR SHOOTERS!"

Yes that or Divine Sealing.
If there is good in the world and wonderful shooters to be found, Divine Sealing is the dark force to counterbalance all that is good and virtuous. I actually find the game's box art more scary than crappy - that's rare! LOL

Konami rules! Any company bringing Suikoden 4, Ys 6, AND a Tengai Makyou game (any one is fine) here al within a year has to rule.
