When the PlayStation first came out, Sony took chances on many niche software titles and did everything they could to muslcle out the compeitiion. Their ambitious yet short lived Yaroze project, which allowed gamers to program their own games, brought about Devil Dice, one of the most original games in the system's library. Whether it's Jumping Flash, Intelligent Qube, Tails of the Sun or even Aquanaut's holiday, they gave players what they wanted. Heck, it kept me in gaming, and I was 3 games and system close to leaving forever.

Some great points Dangerboy, but some other reasons that the PlayStation is the best system is because of what they did for the industry. Sony with their Playstation made it cool to be a gamer. With a library bigger than almost everything else out there, you couldnt go wrong to find a game that you would like. Sony was also smart in being a new to the scene company and doing what Panasonic (3DO) and Atari (Jaguar) couldnt do, get tons of developers to develop new exclusive titles for this system. With out Sony's bacikng, would there ever have been a Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Tomb Raider, Tony Hawk, Medievil, Ape Escape among many others? I shure dont think so. Heck Sony's PS2 titles have been great as well. Would gaming be the same today if there was no Grand Theft Auto 3, Or no Jak and Daxter, Final Fantasy X. Sony is where the stuff really is.
