Here’s an assignment for you all. Let’s build a videogame-themed theme park. In your post, describe a ride, show, or other amusement-park-related feature you would want this theme park to have. One caveat – no arcades or live-action Laser Tag arenas. (Too easy.)

Would this park have “sections” or “lands” , ie, “SuperMarioWorld” (all things Nintendo-based); “SonicZone” (Sega-based); etc.? Or would it be a hodgepodge of themes, both classic and modern?

Here’s my idea: a steel roller coaster based on the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Let’s call it “Sonic Boom.” Linear induction launch (no “clickity-click” hills, just fired out of the loading platform with magnetic coils or whatever they use). Ride is themed to look like the Sega Genesis games, with lots of green hills and palm trees for landscaping. Plenty of yellow and red checkerboard-patterns. Maybe have a few golden rings here and there. Robotisized animatronic animals in the ride queue, perhaps? The ride itself would be a basic steel coaster with a few loops and twists. Perhaps the trains could be blue in color. But it’d be that initial “launch” that would give the ride its “hook”.

Your turn.

I don't know about that. If some little kid puked on a guy in a Mario or Sonic costume, I'd be fearful of what I may do as a result.

Take this track, put it indoors (much like Flight of Fear at Paramount Parks):

Theme it to represent Zero Wing. Have the que area modeled after the inside of the captain's ship, complete with 'explosions' outside the windows. Model the trains to look like 'zig' and have CATS greet you on a big video screen as you board them. As soon as he says his monologue and laughs, the LIM system launches the coaster into the bowl.

A Mega Man themed coaster would be cool too.

There should be a train ride of some sort where the cars are sit down arcade cabs like that Star Wars game.

Oh you know in nintendo land you need mario golfing and a mario kart speed way!

And in sega land a fast rollercoaster in a sonic theme.

I would give it a name like ArcadeLand or Video Game World.

Using the Walt Disney plan, I would divide it up into different sections (Frontier Land, Tomorrow Land, etc.) but give it arcade/video game names.

For instance, I would make a "Mario Land" that would have all things Nintendo, like a Mario Kart track, a Donkey Kong Country Mine Ride, Princess Toadstool's Castle (like Cinderella's Castle?), and Wario's Woods (maybe a haunted house ride?) and instead of "It's A Small World" pumping through the speakers, you could have the Super Mario World music repeating over and over.

But you can also use similar themes used by Disney.

In the equivalent of Disney's Fantasy Land you could have a "Castlevania" theme Haunted Mansion ride, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Battletoads Wild Ride, and a Panzer Dragoon ride (instead of Dumbo the Flying Elephant).

In Adventure Land you could have rides based upon RPGs like Zelda.

In the equivalent of Tomorrowland, you could have a Wing Commander themed ride, a TRON ride or a ride based upon SHMUPS like R-Type.

for the true geeks, instead of the Hall of Presidents, we could have the Hall of Video Game Developers. LOL

and Down Main Street USA you could have endless arcades, and a parade of video game characters for the kids.

screw it, I'll make a "LakeSide Amusement Park" from Silent Hill 1 and 3

A hall-of-mirrors like place that has everything in vector, and another with lots of black lights for a TRON Funhouse

You know like how the monorail takes people around Disneyland and sees all the different areas? We could have a ridel like that based on Centipede.

And for a single section, there should be an Atari Square, a kind of shrine to Atari titles and all that kind of good stuff. Not the Infogrames/Atari, but the original Atari. And a sort of ride like the Star Trek Experience, where you're fighting and chasing a Klingon Bird of Prey in Las Vegas, except make it themed like Yar's Revenge or something.

How about the DreamCoaster - an indoor steel coaster - the building is shaped like a Dreamcast, and the 4 main doors will be the controller ports - inside will take you on a ride of the lifetime, kinda like the Dreamcast commercials it will have sega chars and whatnot on holographic screens all around you.

Heh... I was going to suggest a haunted house based on Silent Hill, and/or Resident Evil. Hmm, or D...

Or maybe the "Illbleed Challenge"...
