Psygnosis was one of if not THE premiere publisher for the Commodore Amiga, my favorite gaming computer. Their games--from the sound and graphics to the packaging artwork--oozed style. 1989's Shadow of the Beast is a tour-de-force in graphics and sound, even if it is too difficult for it's own good, and was a true killer app for Amigas. However, Psygnosis' huge hit would come in 1991 with Lemmings. Lemmings is a brilliant puzzle game with simple yet attactive graphics and catchy tunes. The puzzles could be maddening, and hearing the lemmings say "Oh no!" before exploding or trying to kill them off on purpose was fun in itself. Lemmings was ported to almost every system of its day, and remains one of my favorite games of all time. Other favorites include Anarchy, Leander and the appropriately named Awesome. Psygnosis also had a string of hits on the Sony Playstation bringing its style to such titles as Wipeout, Destruction Derby and Colony Wars, but to me it is their catalog of Amiga titles that puts them in such high regard.
