So the demos are coming out in stores?

Black Dragon
08-01-2004, 12:22 AM
probably maybe as a give out as like if u buy a DS they will give a demo game for it or a maybe one day they will let kids test the DS like in a Toysrus store then give you all the test carts for promo DS because Toysrus stores do that, or maybe they will give a cupple out in a nintendo power magazine they do that for demos too!!

Also since the cart is a flash card or a Smart Media card will that mean it might be able to play Mp3s with a attachment being for the GBA slot and the Smart Media card with the Mp3s on it will go in the DS port. The same with a Camera attachment and the Smart Media card but these are some of MANY of my ideas!!!!!! :wink 2:

and remember, Nintendo has many stuff coming out this could be possible!

There's a new VIewtiful Joe title in the works for the DS? Sweet! I'll have to pick that one up. But what I'm most excited about is Animal Crossing DS and Mr. Driller. I've gotten addicted to both of them, and now I can own them both? YES!

Damn that's a fine list going already.

Gotta have practically every Mario/Wario game on there. Looks like the wanna concentrate on what makes mario GOOD. Pictochat I am hoping will be a pac-in, but if not, i'll pick it up cheap sometime. Wifi Bomberman could be pretty sweet. The Pacman stuff looked interesting but I hope there's some Pacman VS stuff going on somewhere too. Sonic is a possibility, and if Project Rub turns out to be an Ulala simulator, I'll grab one before it gets banned. Heh.

Question:

Why would I want to buy games I already have on my Cube? Most of those look like simple ports.

(Same applies to the Sony PSP.)

I'm of course going to get the new (remake) 2d mario game and the new zelda when it comes out. Though i'm kind of interested to see what team ninja will be making and if the rpg namco has in mind will be a new tales game.

Hmmm......Probably most of the Mario Games, Animal Crossing....Maybe the Gundam game if its good.....The choices!

Black Dragon
08-01-2004, 12:23 PM
yea but your all forgetting the awesome part with all the new DS carts,

From Nintendo, New Media: For its compact cards, the unit uses newly developed semiconductor memory, which allows for lower cost, shorter manufacturing time and memory capacity of more than one gigabit of information.

that means that when the DS comes out Games for it will came out with it, also lower cost carts!!!!!!!!!! I AM THINKING BETWEEN $15 TO $30 at the highest and $15 at the lowest I think its going to be $25 or $20 even!!!!!:D

Black Dragon

NEW!!!!!! Four Swords DS and Goldeneye DS now CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!

Cool! now Goldeneye my 2nd fav N64 game is on DS!!!!!!!!!!! Now I have 2 of my most fav games on DS Super Mario 64 and Goldeneye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! X_x :D :D :D

TheMaestro
08-02-2004, 01:38 PM
There is no way these games will be less than $30... The media may be cheaper, but the development costs are what you're paying for.

Not to mention you're talking about a company that sells SMB3 (a 15 year old game that has already sold millions) for the low low price of $30!

Animal Crossing DS - Hell yeah!

Mario Kart DS - Ditto!

NEW Super Mario Bros. DS - Oh boy. Can't wait!

Nintendogs - I thought this was a Demo only? Still, it's cool. And if it's cheap..

Super Mario 64X4 - Well.. depends. If it's got the original game, Yes. If not, NO. I don't do multi-player games. I WANT A REMAKE OF M64!

Zelda DS - Well.. yes. As long as it's better than Majora.. the only Zelda game I didn't like.. aside from Adventure.

Need for Speed - If it down't suck. And if it isn't modelled after Underground. BAH! Fuck Underground. NO MORE CITY RACING!

As for the rest. Metroid I could care less about. I'm not a Metroid player. So I can pass that one by.

if there's a Star Fox game and if it takes place in SPACE AND NO WALKING AROUND!!! I will totally buy it. NO MORE WALKING MISSIONS NINTENDO!!

Edit: Four Swords - If it's playable as a single player and is more than the Cube version, yeah.

Goldeneye - Only if it's a remake of the original N64 one, or a game along the same lines. Here's hoping for the N64 version. None of that "Rogue Agent" bull.

The new info and new games list,

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 10, 2004 – Nintendo DS™ will rock the Western Hemisphere with an amazing lineup of games, as the video game industry’s heavy hitters prepare to support Nintendo’s revolutionary dual-screened hand-held innovation. Many of the industry’s biggest software companies confirm that they will deliver names like Madden NFL, Viewtiful Joe, Rayman and SpongeBob SquarePants to the Nintendo DS, so players can enjoy their favorite franchises in ways never before possible.

"Publishers worldwide have taken the unique creative tools of our dual-screened Nintendo DS and used them to invent completely new ways to play," says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. "Just imagine the possibilities that a touch screen, voice recognition and wireless multiplayer action bring to video games."

Upcoming games from publishers like Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Capcom, Atari, Sega, Activision, Konami, Namco, Ubisoft, Vivendi Universal Games, THQ, Majesco and others demonstrate the broad range of support that Nintendo DS enjoys.

"EA’s studio teams are working on a lot of great titles for the Nintendo DS,” says Steve Chiang, General Manager of EA’s Tiburon Studio, which makes Madden NFL.

"With the wireless feature, Madden players will be able to battle one another head-to-head like never before on a portable system."

"From the first time we saw the abilities of the Nintendo DS, we knew we had something extraordinary in our hands," says Will Kassoy, Activision’s vice president of global brand management. "Our developers dove right in and made the most of the unique features of this revolutionary new system."

I won't get a DS when it first comes out (I still haven't gotten an SP), but when I do get it the games I'm gonna go after are Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Metroid, and the new super mario game. I'll get the Zelda game if it's not some stupid "you can only play this game with four of your best buddies" crap, cause in my circle of friends, other than me and my girlfriend, no one else plays games. so I've always hated Nintendo fur pulling that crap, especially with games I want to play like new Zeldas and FF's. I mean c'mon it IS possible to make a game that's good solo and multiplayer. sorry ranting :)

What exactly is the DS for technical specs? Is it a portable 64 bit system? Does that mean it will be able to play games similar to those on the N64?

Holy crap, there's a lot of games that I want. Too bad I won't have nearly enough money for all of it.

The only Zelda game that IS multi-player only is the GBA version that came out on the Link to the Past rerelease.

Dual Screens: Two LCD screens offer one of the most groundbreaking game-play advances ever developed: experiencing a game from two perspectives at once. Imagine the possibilities. In a racing game, drivers might see their own vehicle's perspective on one screen and an overall track view on the other. In a role-playing game, the action could take place on the first screen while the second provides a reference for a player's tools inventory. Game play also could use both screens at once, offering a giant boss for heroes to defeat. In the future, games could be created allowing users to play games on one screen while text messaging other DS users on the other. Each 3-inch screen can reproduce a true 3-D view and is backlit to assure comfortable play in any lighting condition.

Touch Screen: The lower screen will offer something never before provided by any game device: PDA-like touch capabilities. Players no longer have to rely on just buttons to move characters or shift perspectives. They can navigate menus or access inventory items simply by touching the screen with stylus or fingertip. A software-based keyboard might even allow the screen to be used as an input center for games and messaging. The possibilities are limited only by developers' imaginations. The screen will have a tougher film cover for durability, and will come with a stylus.

Microphone: An available microphone port means that in the future, players might need only to tell their games what to do. DS software could identify everything from voice commands to hand-clapping. Players might be able to move their characters simply by telling them which way to go. The voice capabilities also could allow gamers to chat with one another over the Internet while playing.

Wireless: DS users will be able to connect with a local wireless network of up to 16 players. Nintendo's guaranteed range is 30 feet, but will extend far beyond that depending on circumstances. It assures high response rates required for real time game play, and will make use of both IEEE 802.11 and Nintendo's proprietary communication protocol, which provides low battery consumption. Players will be able to chat and play games without any connecting cords, completely untethered. The DS technology also provides for a wireless LAN connection, which could allow a theoretically infinite number of players to connect at a hot spot and compete at a central game hub on the Internet, even if they're thousands of miles apart.
Wireless Game Sharing: If software developers desire, multiple players can compete in wireless games, even if only one person has a game card inserted. Players could also test-play games for themselves as long as they stayed connected.

3-D: With the newly developed graphics engine, DS can reproduce impressive 3-D renderings that can surpass images displayed on the Nintendo 64. Games will run at 60 frames per second, and allow details like fog effects and cel shading.
Sound: The 16-channel sound allows for greatly expanded use of voices and music, and a richer, more immersive game experience. A plug for headphones transmits stereo sound.

Battery & Power Management: The battery is rechargeable and the unit features a low-energy-consumption design. The DS also has Power Management functions of Sleep mode and Standby mode. In Sleep mode, players can stop and resume game play whenever they like. If the user receives a message from a friend or user nearby, DS activates itself from Standby mode.

Processing: The unit will run on two processors, one ARM9 one ARM7.

New Media: For its compact cards, the unit uses newly developed semiconductor memory, which allows for lower cost, shorter manufacturing time and memory capacity of more than one gigabit of information.

Dual Slots: Nintendo DS makes a vast library of Game Boy Advance games readily available. Developers could find ways to make new connections between GBA games and DS games. The GBA port could be used for new hardware, enormously expanding the functional expandability of the DS.[/img]

I can't wait for the DS! I'm gonna buy:

Animal Crossing DS
Castlevania DS
Dragon Warrior Monsters (if it gets a US release)
Dynasty Warriors
Egg Monster Heroes
Ganbare Goemon (PLEASE let this get a US release! I love Goemon!)
Harvest Moon DS
Legend of Zelda DS
Untitled Mana game
Mario Kart DS
Mega man Battle Network DS
Metroid Prime hunters
Monster Rancher
Mr.Driller
Naruto (import, definitely)
New Super Mario bros.
Pac 'n roll
PAc pix
Rayman
Shin Megami Tensei
Sonic DS
Super Mario 64 4x4
Vandal Hearts
Viewtiful joe
Wario Ware DS

Where am i gonna get the money for all that? Anyway, does anyone know if the DS will be region-free? I NEED goemon!

Region... I keep hearing this will actually BE Region based. I keep saying "What a dumb idea." But people kept yelling at me saying it was a great idea and it's about time they did it. I still say if they implement Region encoding into the DS, it'll be very sucky. The best thing about the GB is that you can play ANY GameBoy game from ANY country WITHOUT having to hack the thing. Do we really want to have to insert a "Boot cartridge" or something to run imported DS games?

Of course, I haven't heard anything official yet.

That is such a cool idea, and now they you can type with a Stylus rather than the control stick, kick ass!

I don't even care if it's a straight port.

Question... How are games to be saved? Will Saved games be on the little cards that the games are on? Or will there be some kind of other memory? What's the specifics here?

Also, pity that the DS AC will actually require two DS' and two games to travel between towns. I can't wait to see how this works.

"Super Mario 64x4: Less the handheld port of the N64 game that many believed it to be and more an arena based challenge where multiple players race to grab Stars from around each of the familiar maps."

-Games TM issue #21

.....and that scratches that game off my list.

The other 2D mario game looks neat but apparently uses single-screen gameplay???

Mario Kart is still on my list in spite of the pointless use of the second screen, though I am sure the cheating AI will be back.............

Considering GoldenEye is an EA game I assume we can expect more World is Not Enough(N64) and less of Rare's masterpiece.

With all of that scepticism out of the way I will get Mr. Driller, Rayman, Sonic and Animal Crossing.

What I really want though is to get a great overhead pinball game that would use both screens and thus wouldn't have to scroll(Pinball Dreams) or be limited by a single screen (Pokemon Pinball).

Jasoco

.....and that scratches that game off my list.I might have to say Ditto. If indeed it is strictly multi-player and not a remake, or at least a remake included, then screw it. I'm not into Multi-player on portables. On consoles, maybe, but portables no. I like portables to be solitary.

The other 2D mario game looks neat but apparently uses single-screen gameplay???
I dunno. Apparently it's more of a game that uses the processing power, rather than the unique features. Hell, I don't care. I do wonder if the stuff on the bottom screen has anything to do with the game though. It just seems like a dumping pit. Well, either way, it looks kick-ass. Let's hope they don't fuck it up.

Mario Kart is still on my list in spite of the pointless use of the second screen, though I am sure the cheating AI will be back.............
LOL. I don't care, it's Mario Kart, and if it's a new game, it'll kick ass.

Considering GoldenEye is an EA game I assume we can expect more World is Not Enough(N64) and less of Rare's masterpiece.
EA WILL NEVER BE GOLDENEYE! GoldenEye is Rare. Any other company's "GoldenEye" is a terrible attempt to "BE" GoldenEye. So far no one has matched it except Perfect Dark, which was also Rare. Whenever I hear GoldenEye, I get all happy.. then someone followes it up with EA and it really pisses me off. Sad.. I keep wishing for a Rare port of the original to a Nintendo console (The DS would probably be the most likely now.) or even the Xbox. Hell, whatever happened to Perfect Dark um.. Zero?? Whatever.. I'd love remakes of both those to go with their remake of Conker.

With all of that scepticism out of the way I will get Mr. Driller, Rayman, Sonic and Animal Crossing.
Mr. Driller.. I'm anxious to see what this is about. Rayman is cool if it's side-scrolling. The first game was beautiful if not hard. Sonic, well.. we'll see. AC.. Hell yes.

What I really want though is to get a great overhead pinball game that would use both screens and thus wouldn't have to scroll(Pinball Dreams) or be limited by a single screen (Pokemon Pinball).
YES! I love Pinball, and to have a PB game that could use both screens like that would be kick-ass. I hope to see many PB releases. too bad Mario Pinball is coming out now for the GBA, it could be so much better on the DS. (There's a demo on the current Kiosk disc.)

Here's hoping for an eventual Pikmin sequel later down the road. Pikmin 3 or Pikmin 2.5 would be great on the DS.

Some games I wouldn't mind seeing remade on the DS that aren't planned yet, but might have gotten half-assed GBA creations..

Crazy Taxi (The GBA version relatively sucked. And all of them would be nice on a DS. It's simple enough to control.)
Serious Sam (Seriously, how could they expect to pull it off on the GBA?)
DOOM (The GBA version was kick-ass, but I wouldn't be opposed to buying it again if packaged together on the DS. Heretic and Hexen as well. Duke Nukem 3D? You bet!)
Sonic Mega Collection (With all the left out games included. I'd buy it again.)
Ikaruga (Might work better if the screens were closer together or joined.)
Dual-Screen Tetris (Hmm.. It's a thought.)

Sadly, the system that would be perfect for Ikaruga, or any other vertical shmup, is the N-Gage. With its vertical screen it would be ideal.

If the DS was one big screen the size of the two screens combined, it would be perfect. The N-Gage screen would be too small to tell what was going on.

Yeah - IF the DS were one big screen. Unfortunately, with so many baddies + black & white bullets bouncing bombastically on the display, that break in between the two would get very annoying.

Wow. What great games. I guess I'll be picking up a DS. But I'm sure as heck gonna wait for Nintendo to release a special limited edition Game and Watch-themed DS in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the original Nintendo handhelds. This should happen in 2005. I can wait. Think about how cool the thing would look. Red anodized shell, cream control area... It would look great with my Famicom-themed GBA SP.

While I do love seeing the list of the games that will soon be coming out, one game is very noticeably absent...

"PUNCH-OUT!!"

How is Nintendo blowing this? This would be a goldmine! First off, it's a rehash of a classic... Big bonus points, there. Secondly, it was originally designed with the idea of being played on two screens! Nintendo had better get on this. Seriously. I mean it this time. For real. All those death threats I "allegedly" made to the higher-ups at Nintendo were regarding their refusal to release an updated "Kid Icarus" in the states were jokes. This time, not so much. Seriously, how do you give me a "Pit" trophy in "Super Smash Brothers Melee" and NOT expect me to react that way?! In the words of Chris Rock, that's like a girl taking off her bra and asking "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!"

But I digress...

Nintendo, please release a DS version of "Punch-Out!!" I apologize for my earlier comments about your executive board and their loved ones.

I guess the N-gage screen is a bit tiny for a vertical shmup like Ikaruga. Perhaps a less frantic shmup like R-Type, but vertical then?

While I do love seeing the list of the games that will soon be coming out, one game is very noticeably absent...

"PUNCH-OUT!!"

That is an excellent idea, but I think the reason we haven't seen a new Punch-Out game in 10 years is the absence of the original development team, Nintendo R&D3. They moved to strictly hardware development after churning out great stuff like the Punch-Out games, Pro Wrestling, and Ice Hockey.

Hrm. That's only a slight problem. Think about it. "Metroid Prime" was developed by someone else. Surely another "Punch-Out!!" could be developed by another group. "Wade Hixton's Counter Punch" for the GBA was a pretty convincing "Punch-Out!!" knock-off... Surely someone could cook up a worthy followup to this classic. I won't let this one die, dammit!

It won't be. It's EA. I doubt EA has the rights to Rare's GE game. It'll end up being based on the stupid "Rogue Agent" game. Bah.

Some of them look really nice. I'm sure Nintendo WILL release colored versions, but I have a feeling it won't be until they're sure it'll succeed. (Read: After Christmas) And even then, Japan will get all the COOL designs and colors. :o

I'll stick with the silver release model.

Update!

Update 1:

DS cell phone!?!?!?!

TNI Securities revealed today in its Electronic Entertainment Industry Update that Nintendo plans to allow voice-over-IP calls to be made free in conjunction with the DS's built-in 802.11b WiFi. The purpose of the recently revealed headset port has been revealed, and it is in part to "help drive adoption among the increasingly connected younger gaming audience," according to TNI.

For the less-informed of you, VoIP is a technology designed to let you make phone calls over a broadband Internet connection without paying for long-distance or any other phone service. Most services are designed to allow you only to call others connected to VoIP, but some are branching out into allowing you to call regular phone numbers. This allows for a cleaner digital signal with no analog noise, and also for multiple people to take place in the same conversation.

Free cell phone!!!!

Take that PSP!!!!!!!!!!
