What are your 10 favorite arcade games of all time and why?
I've done mine in no particular order:

Lucky and Wild- Best 2-Player fun EVER!!!!
Monaco GP (Sit Down Cabinet)- Such mindless driving fun
Rally X- In my opinion, better than Pac-Man
Robotron 2084- The most addictive and hardest game I've ever played
Showdown- Innovative fusion of poker and shooting
The Simpsons- Still the best liscensed Simpsons game
Street Fighter II Turbo- Such good memories...
After Burner II (Motion Cabinet)- Fun and an exciting expirience
Soul Edge- My favorite fighting game of all time
GTI Club- Played it while I was in Russia, would have played more but we were kicked out by bouncers

What are your favorites?

My Ten Favorite Arcade Games Of All Time
(no particular order)

1) Space Harrier

The clever "3D" gimic makes for a fun shmup with a unique spin. Someone should re-do this game in true 3D on a nexgen console. The sitdown cab was phenomenal as it moved around much like G-Loc with the harrier. It's killer soundtrack is unmatched.

2) TailGunner

Another neat "3D" viewpoint game, this time in vectors. In the sitdown cab you really get immersed in the story of being a starfighter's tail gun operator. Overly simplistic by modern standards but a great space shmup nonetheless.

3) The Ninja Warriors

With the three screens that were also used in Darius, this game transcended the typical side-scroll fighters like Double Dragon, et al. Plus, the red female ninja was a way cooler character to play than anything in Final Fight. Add the ninja stars and that killer Japanese punk soundtrack (which I still own on CD) and you have a total arcade winner.

Note that these first three games' greatest features are those things which, to this date, have not been recreated by any console experience. Junk of today, like Halo and Doom, cannot hold a candle to playing across three screens of playfield or floating around in a hydraulic cab while you blast away the alien baddies of this universe.

4) Star Castle

I so sucked at this game, but I love it and still play it regularly on MAME! So simple, just fly around and blast the Star Castle walls away and then get the mother ship. The original cab with vectors and colored plastic screen overlays for it's colors was so clever for it's day. They had this at a local grocery store and I must have begged hundreds of quarters off of my mom to play it whenever we went shopping there.

5) StarBlade Alpha

My friend and I spent nearly $40 to see this games ending when it first came out! One of the earliest truly 3D videogames, it was really kind of simple to play, just shoot. Still, it was awesome to watch the 3D environments, totally unlike anything we ever experienced. The cab was really cool, sit down and the slightly curved glass in front of the screen totally immersed you even more in the story.

6) Pac Man, 7) Ms. Pac Man, 8) Galaga, 9) Space Invaders

Okay, all these are pretty common, but I can't ever really get enough of these games. This is what defined gaming and I am blessed to have been able to be young enough to enjoy all of these with wonderment, but just old enough to have grasped the power of it all, and just the right age to have carved out a career for myself in the media arts that is largely influenced by these classics.

10) Tempest

The earliest incarnation of the ideas that would later become the 3D games genre. This is 3D done right. Rather than being all about the 3D gimic, the 3D only serves to set the stage for one of the greatest shmups of all time! With Tempest, it's all about the gameplay, with the graphics making it look super cool. Nowadays, the cool look is always there but the gameplay is missing in action.

Here's my fave ten:

-Metal Slug 2. I dropped nearly 30 tokens at one time trying to get all the way through this game and getting the high school (the last time I played it I beat it in 18).
-DDR. Got addicted and haven't stopped playing since. Once a week at the local bowling alley, baby!
-Sunset Riders. For some reason, I just love this game, and I'm not even really any good at it!
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (four-player cab). I don't know the subtitle, but I think you know the one I mean. Great game, the more players the merrier.
-Galaga. Gotta love it.
-Centipede. Roller ball goodness, and so addicting!
-Mr. Driller. The most addictive action-puzzle game I know about at the moment.
-Ms. Pac-Man. I never got to play it anywhere regularly, but I've found a place with a cab, so I've dropped a few quarters in there. ;-)
-Bust-a-Move. Best. Bubble. Popper. EVER.
-Tetris. My local Scandia has a Tetris cab, so I've played that a bit.

Here are mine:

Major Havoc: I loved this game and only played it a handful of times in my local ghetto theatre.

Stun Runner: Man I loved the nuclear weapon in this game stun running
baby.

720: Admit it slalom is cool on a skateboard, and bees are your worst enemy.

Cabal: Best trackball game ever. Remember you could dodge by spinning to the right or left hella fast. I know you all remember the funny dance the characters made when they passed a level.

SF III: 2nd Impact: I played the ken/ryu wannabe, man I can't remember his name, but he had that arcing kick that was so slow and so lame no one else dared to use it.

Darius (3 screen): best twitcher ever for me. Stupid giant rockfish bosses I still dream about.

Ms. Pac Man mini: This was a kid sized version of the original Ms. Pac Man. You had to sit on your knees to play it. I got my first arcade girlfriend from playing this game.

Virtua Cop; play with two guns and be a John Woo man. I could outscore the off-duty cop who was on security detail every time. Snooootch.
