Hope this topic hasn't been posted before but I was thinking about some of those beautiful cinematic cut scenes we used to see in our old eight/sixteen bitters. I guess with the advent of cgi mini movies that we see nowadays, most of us are a bit jaded but I used to love seeing what little graphic tricks were done way back when by programmers to tell a poignant story.

My absolute fave cinema was from Phantasy Star. I was awestruck when little Myau transformed into the beautiful winged creature and flapped off to the awesome floating castle. A super nice touch that helped make PS the classic that it is. Interested in hearing other's recollections.

Ninja Gaiden 2, Irene's blood dripping off what's his face's sword, and him just laughing....staring Ryu down.

I was...amazed... at that age and time.

Ninja Gaiden had some really good "cinema" style scenes.
Can't think of specific's, but I'm sure final fantasy had some nice stuff all over the place as always, heh.

I remember being amazed at the scenes in Batman (NES) and also liked the scenes from Gremlins 2.

Wing Commander and X-Wing/TIE Fighter both had some great stuff.

Oh, and ... KARATEKA! ;)

The Ninja Gaiden games are, of course, classic.

X-Wing and the early Final Fantasy's were good as well.

Maybe it's outside of the time frame, but my first CD game was Command and Conquer for the PC in 1995 and I was blown AWAY by the scenes in that game. :eek 2:

FF6 opera.

That wasn't quite a cinema, though. However, I remember the part where the airship crashes as being pretty impressive for the time.

Yeah, I have to agree that the C&C ones were pretty damn good, I liked a lot of the ones in Red Alert especially.

I always likes the cut-scenes in Silpheed (Mega CD).

Mainly coz I'm a sucker for filthy great polygons. ;)

Flashback and Another World (Out of this World). The intros were total class! Delphine were genius! I used to just sit and watch the Another Wold intro over and over....

The Ninja Gaidens had such great cinematic scenes. Those cinemas are simply classic.

I also remember Batman's (NES) cinemas as well, and when I was a kid, those impressed me.

I remeber thinking the intro to warsong was really cool. The Ninja Gaiden games had the greatest scenes. The intro to NG1 had me and my friend amazed back in the day.

As far as vintage games go, my favorites would be from the Ninja Gaiden series. They just had such a terrific sense of style.

I loved all the FMV parts of the saturn shinobi game. They were so freaking funny and poorly don't. The part i like the most was that it almost sounded like they were swearing a couple of times (it's in japanese). Could just be me though trying to actical make the game fun.

Man, I had forgotten how good the cut scenes from Ninja Gaiden were. I didn't finish the game cuz I thought it was pretty tough and I traded it away but I do remember this awesome scene were you climb to the top of a cliff and the camera pulls back for an glimpse of the clouds/skyline. Classic!

Easily, Lunar 2 on the Sega CD. All of them were beautiful and poignant. Also the opening and ending to Snatcher and Urusei Yatsura. Awesome all around. Other notables include Mega Man 2, Castlevania 3, the Actraiser ending, the cinemas in Dracula X on the PC-E, the cheesy but lovable opening to Road Avenger....man, I'm just gonna stop...*sigh* there's too many now to list....

Urusei actually has had a few games based upon it, but the Mega CD version, to me, is the best one. It had the actual voice actors from the tv show and it is a nice showpiece of what the Mega CD could do in the right hands with animated sequences. Even thoiugh it's in Japanese, there is a very good walkthrough to follow the whole plot and it's also very easy to navigate and control. I still love playing it even today. I have some pics up at my MSN group at http://groups.msn.com/segacdfans
