Standard newbie disclaimer: I dug around in the archives, but couldn't find the answer to this question, so I'm posing it here.
I've been collecting complete NES carts for a few months now, and as my collection has grown, I see that a common box ailment is that the inside of the top flap is damaged or destroyed by the cartridge sleeve when the box is closed. The cardboard seperates and starts to peel back over time. The exceptions to this rule have been the very few carts I've got that still have the plastic baggie wrapped around the cartridge & sleeve.
In the interest of preserving my collection, I'm looking into acquiring either these bags, or making reasonably close reproductions. Measured out they're about 6" by 8.5" (I didn't think to do metric measurements until just now, but I'd bet that they were built with metric in mind). I'm unsure however of the bags' thickness. Looking online, I can get polyvinyl bags in something close to the appropriate size for a decent price ($20 for 1000 6"x9" bags), and I figure I can just drill through them to put a hole in each side.
On the other hand, would it be possible to get these bags from Nintendo? I'm guessing they were way overbought just because they're cheap and essential to the manufacturing process, and maybe NOA just has a few thousand still lying around?
I guess I'd just like to know if anyone else has looked into this, what kind of success they might have had, and what thickness & size bags they used for the project if they went for reproductions.
