Standard newbie disclaimer: I dug around in the archives, but couldn't find the answer to this question, so I'm posing it here.

I've been collecting complete NES carts for a few months now, and as my collection has grown, I see that a common box ailment is that the inside of the top flap is damaged or destroyed by the cartridge sleeve when the box is closed. The cardboard seperates and starts to peel back over time. The exceptions to this rule have been the very few carts I've got that still have the plastic baggie wrapped around the cartridge & sleeve.

In the interest of preserving my collection, I'm looking into acquiring either these bags, or making reasonably close reproductions. Measured out they're about 6" by 8.5" (I didn't think to do metric measurements until just now, but I'd bet that they were built with metric in mind). I'm unsure however of the bags' thickness. Looking online, I can get polyvinyl bags in something close to the appropriate size for a decent price ($20 for 1000 6"x9" bags), and I figure I can just drill through them to put a hole in each side.

On the other hand, would it be possible to get these bags from Nintendo? I'm guessing they were way overbought just because they're cheap and essential to the manufacturing process, and maybe NOA just has a few thousand still lying around?

I guess I'd just like to know if anyone else has looked into this, what kind of success they might have had, and what thickness & size bags they used for the project if they went for reproductions.

Well, the bad news is I didn't find much for these bags.

The good news is that I found dog-bone controllers on sale straight from NOA for $15 a pop.

Beats paying $30 on eBay.

NOA has brand nes dogbone controllers? Or are the just the controller itself without a box or anythning? Cause Ive seen many loose ones go for under 10 bucks lately.

Well, they're definitely brand new, but they were a bit sketchy on the phone as to whether or not they came in retail packaging.

2 things:

1. The controllers are most likely poly-bagged with a header card. Highly doubt they'd have have factory sealed ones.

2. If you do drill through the bags, I dunno if a astandard bit would work. I would figure it would grab and tear the plastic around the hole you're drilling. A bit that is hollow in the center would work best, I think. And don't do a bunch at a time.

After further consideration, I'm probably going to just use a hammer punch to get the airholes in the bags.

I've got a few samples of a couple different bag types on the way, so once I reach my conclusion I'll post about it here.

just use a paper hole punch tool thingy, those work. anyways... if you are interested in the real deal I see lots on ebay for them every now and then. I won a lot fo 35 baggies, 16 styros and 2 camerica cardboads for .01 plus 1.25 shipping. there out there, just gotta look and see what is selling.

Check the web site. I remember seeing they had them a while back. ;)
