News which is most great and readily received -- Shenmue Online is the annoucement! New game available soon is to be sequel to Shenmue game series from Dreamcast for new players enjoyment!

This is the beginning of a great, happy time for those who have said SEGA's current lineup is lackluster. Looks like the monetary might of Sammy squarely behind the talent of SEGA is finally bearing some tasty fruit.

What is this on? Xbox? It'll be cool if it's a true sequel, though I don't know how it'll work, honestly-there can only be one Ryo.

PC only, not China only. The game is located in China, while beta testing will be done in Korea sometime in 2005. After that, the game will be released here/jpn/europe/etc.

I just hope it picks up where part 2 left off...if it's a side story.(Since most Online games that spawn from a series seem to do that lately)..then I don't know what to think..it's great news, but I just hope it works out as an Online deal
I am one heluva Shenmue fan and I am so happy about this. I just dont want to wait a year or more to play this in the states. I am going to preorder it as soon as i can :D

While there has been a press release in Japanese, and other info in JPN and ENG, there's been no mention of releasing the game outside of the Chinese PC market.
Quoting G-rev, the best Japanese news site on the web, in regards to Shenmue Online
Apparently not a sequel to Shenmue II, one must think of this as an alternative [in the same universe]. Players are fighters, gaining experience, moves, and (chinese) weapons to use in realtime battles along the way, in this MMO Action RPG.
Set in China and Hong Kong in the mid 80's, the story unfolds amongst tens of thousands (exagerration?) of characters and users. The Fighting part of the game will reportedly take elements adapted from the Virtua Fighter series.
Finally, Afterburner and Hang On will be appearing as mini games.
I'd love to see where it says it'll be released in the US and Japan afterwards... it just doesn't though. Sega is using this specifically to pierce the Chinese (perhaps ultimately Asian) PC Online market. I doubt we'll ever see this on a console.
On a side note, CT Rider and PSO: Blue Burst are part of this offensive to be a known-force in Asia. The US isn' even getting a release of Blue Burst... how's that for a slap in the crotch?

Agreed. I'm not much of an MMORPG player, even though I was a FFXI beta tester.
We need Shenmue 3!!! Especially with the incredible cliffhanger ending the second one had... Bring back the soda-and-vending-machine-toy powered hero Ryu!

i read somewhere before that yu sukuki was planning on doing 3 for xbox...but maybe i was wrong... anywho, this makes me happy....wooo i hope it makes a US release, if not i will just have to wait a long long time for the new phantasy star universe game
