aside from ebay (seems too pricey)

and http://www.superauctions.com/dates.html , where else do you guys get your cabinets?

ebay seems too expensive for cabinets, saw a area 51 on there for over 2k, there arent many cabinets (if any) being sold in local papers any more

Here in th UK
I use e-bay UK,its not too expensive but you do have to sort out the bargains from the junk like any other auction. Not a bad place to meet new contacts and suppliers too.
Im afraid we dont have those huge auction like in the US :(

Oh, they're out there if 1. you look hard enough and 2. aren't too damn particular. I've seen arcade cabs at flea markets, thrift stores, sitting on curbsides :eek 2: , and in the classified ads in the local paper. Now granted, arcade cabs are often priced to some insane degree (like the ad in the paper for a non-working Pac-Man for $7,000) or they're so beaten and torn asunder to be worthless. But my Targ machine (a game I grew up with, loved, and always wanted to own) was found at a local flea mkt. for $125. Replaced the monitor (which I stupidly busted x_x ), the control panel, and the bezel, repainted the sides, rewired some frays inside, swabbed it down with Armor All, and it's arcade-ready.

So, if you're willing to put some work into fixing 'em up, they can be had cheap. If you want it "showrrom fresh," you're never never gonna find one for $100 like the old days.

My cabs:

Cocktail: bought from someone on RGVAM (usenet)
Space Duel: bought from local distrubutor/known via RGVAM (usenet)
POW: Yard sale
Rack 'Em Up (pinball): Yard sale
VF2: DP buying/selling forum

One I no longer have:

1952 United Shuffle bowler: antique store

I've also seen cabs in the local want ads... just get to all of the arcade forums (usenet, the web forums) and become a member of the community. Most people who have a good collection took years to accumulate the cabs since it's more a function of being in the right place at the right time as it is of anything else. Just keep looking. You'll find them.

what are good prices for cabinets? ive seen near mint classic arcade go for under 500$ (seems fair to me)

but here are

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6111442979&rd=1

and

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6111435390&rd=1

granted these dont have bids, and are only BIN, but is this typical of what they go for or does these people simply wanna hook someone who has money?

Crazy Taxi for 3,499$ bad example bc its by the same people above

You're probably not, you just have to be vigilant. Sure, I found a pin and a dynamo cab at yard sales... but I probably visited 1000 yard sales in the process over an entire summer.

You just have to be in the right place at the right time, bro... which means over the course of a long time you need to try a lot of places.

i got a neo geo mvs 4 slot in near mint condition for $350
and a sit-down nintendo vs. for $125 w/ 1 bad monitor

all i did was keep calling around my area and looking at arcades to see if the machines had phone numbers on them....i just kept calling around and asking around and kept getting new contacts until i found the cabs at the price i wanted...

Here's where I got my 3 player Aliens Vs. Predator cab:

http://namcoarcade.com/gamesearch.asp

Got it from the arcade here in my hometown. Even though it says sold "As Is' the manager was nice enough to give it a once over and even replaced one of the joysticks. They do charge you sales tax though. But even after that I got the machine for $425 and it was only 5 years old at the time.
