Well, I just picked up the PSone / screen combo used at Gamestop for $79.99. I guess it hadn't been used much, since it was still in the box, and the plastic protector was still covering the screen.

I like it a lot. Having played a lot of GBA SP in the last year, this just seems to me like a big GBA with a double size screen (and a larger library). Very cool. The image is sharp, and the speakers are surprisingly good, too.

I hadn't realized that Sony had stopped making them, so I suppose it's anybody's guess whether these things will come down much more in price before they start getting hard to find.

I had heard the screen was best for 2 dimensional fare while RPGs with lots of text of varying sizes suffered the most. This is no different of comments regarding the Turbo Express, of course, a ten year precedent. While Sony's low-end consumer electronics tend to be suspect (the CD drives) their displays are usually very nice.

If/when EB or Gamestop decide to run a promotion to dump their PSOne/Screen combos I will jump in line. 50 bucks is about the most I'm willing to pay for a color LCD setup with such a limited AV input option.

I heart my PS1 + LCD screen. Been getting a lot of use out of that one lately. :D

I snapped one up a while back for my son when KBToys had that killer $29.99 deal on the 4" LCD monitor and it's a pretty cool little unit. I like that it has AV/in so you can use it with any AV console, DVD player, etc...

EB had a single controller that plugged into both controller ports on the front of the PSOne and was attached to the console which then made the PSOne like a very large handheld. It was kind cool even if it was just a novelty item.

Is is actually possible to plug anything with A/V into the screen? That would make me happy if so. I know there's a mini plug on the back, but was unaware it could be used for anything....hmm.

If there is I haven't figured it out. Mind you I haven't tried anything.

I picked up my setup last year and *love* it, although I don't use it much anymore. During the big blackout last August I figure I was the only person playing PlayStation games :)

I am also waiting on the 50.00 dollar price point.

If anyone wants to sell me one for 50.00, I'm game.

The one I have is made by Intec and it has AV/in jacks on the back and a switch on the left to set the video mode.

like this one (http://www.ratedpc.com/products/asinsearch_B00005M8TD/)

It makes the PSOne a good travel system but it's no substitute for gaming on a real tv and it's nowhere near as crisp as my Samsung portable DVD player with 10" LCD wide screen. ;)

I've got one of those, it's by InterAct. Not a lot of backup power in the thing, I get about 2 hours out of it before it needs to be recharged.

It really is a cool setup, the one thing that kinda f's it up is that controller. A controller on the console itself would have made it really much more portable.

I don't know if you have the sony screen, but thats the one I have. All you have to get for the sony screen is a cord that goes from a mini plug to red/white/yellow rca that you can get at radio shack, then you should be able to hook up anything to it. If its mono all you need is the red/white to miniplug that you can get anywhere. I was using mine as a TV in my bedroom by hooking an old vcr into the back LOL . Right now I have a turbo-grafx and a genesis through a pelican switch in my computer room to play while waiting for stuff to load on my computer. The picture is real nice and clear with no noise. The nice thing, as soon as it senses a signal it automatically turns on, so I don't have to unhook it to play the PS games. :) I'm real happy with mine, I think the sony one is a lot clearer than the third party ones I've seen.

I do have the Sony one. I think you've just inspired me to bring my PS into work to hook up to my stereo. I'll be able to play DVDs and watch 'em at my desk!

Unforutnately I have to play all my PS1 games on the lcd combo. I think it's pretty clear (It was nice when I was taking it to work too) but like mentioned above RPG's can be a pain. My eye sight isn't great as it is, so I have to get pretty close to read the RPG text.

I still own a Zenith System 2 TV. The only TV that's unable to play PSX games due to screen bouncing. (Well, there's 2 models for System 2, 1 that can be adjusted to work, one that can't. Of course I'm the unlucky one with the piece of garbage that can't.)

Unfortunately one of the pieces of plastic inside it must've snapped or something, because it's limp. I have to stuff a piece of cardboard between the PSOne and LCD to get it to stand up. :(

Heh. The $50 price point. Since what I saw at the Gamestop was the PSone and PSone screen combo for $80, I was figuring "OK--$50 for the screen, $30 for the PSone". Rationalization firmly in place, I laid down the Jacksons.

Because you see, I, too, had had that $50 figure in the back of my head.

Oh, yeah -- if you want to pick up a combo (that is, the official Sony PSone screen packaged with a PSone) used, $80 seems to be the going price at Gamestops. You can use the Gamestop web page to search for locations near you that have one in stock.

What? Am I with Gamestop? Well, not officially... @_@

He--all you guys saying you were waiting for the PSone/LCD combo to fall to $50. Just thought you should know this: Gamespot is listing used ones on its website for...$50! Search "LCD" on their website main search to get to the page, and then search for stores that have one in stock. Happy happy joy joy!

my used psone combo screen at game stop was $49.00 in december. I had to jump on it. Looks like the price went up. Mine also had the plastic cover over the screen.

I bought the mini-plug adapter at gamestop because it was only 99 cents new in box. Seems pretty worthless though, I don't exactly get it. You can hook up your camcorder so that you can watch the camcorder video on your psOne screen? Would have been much better if it was just a regular sized video jack.

I actually end up playing the psOne more than my other systems because it's right next to my computer (so small just sits on desk) so it's so easy and conveinent to just play a game while burning a dvd or whatever. I'd highly recommend it, but get the Sony LCD, not the 3rd party.

I got a few PSOne Combos @ TRU during their sale this last winter for $44.90 each.

So, can these LCD screens be used for other things as well? Namely inputting something else into it? As in anything else with RCA A/V jacks?

on the back there are 4 slots, 1 for dc power, 1 for av multi out (to hook up psOne to real tv), 1 for headphones (I plug this into my stereo instead), and 1 labeled AV IN, which is a mini-plug.

You have to buy the adapter, which I did, gamestop lists it for $9.99, but ring it up and it comes up .99cents. Anyways, the only thing that I know of that use mini-plugs are camcorders, which is what the box for the cable says to use it for. So basically other than that virtually worthless a/v function there isn't one.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong or if there is a like mini-plug to real video jack adapter out there or something =)

I remember playing Lunar 2 on this Combo. Man word of advice, don't even try FF Tactics lol That hurts my eyes!

Yet I will say, the sweetest looking game on the PSOne combo, is Metal Slug X and CVS Pro. That is just too pimp. Nothing like a quick Terry Vs. Ken battle on the PSOne!

You can plug any composite video source into a PSone screen. Here's what I wrote in this thread:

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=516779&highlight=screen#516779

Yeah, you can do what I did and purchase a camcorder patch cable. The one I got has a 1/8 inch male connector on one end and male RCA connectors on the other end. I bought some female-female RCA couplers, so now I can plug any system into it, so long as it has composite output.

Unfortunately, that's a lot of conversion and cabling, and I notice some loss of picture quality. For comparison I put Final Doom into the PSone connected directly to the screen, and then put another copy into a Playstation connected to the screen through the 1/8 inch plug. The image was slightly darker and murkier in the latter case. For example, when looking into a dark room, it was harder to make out the wall structure inside when using the 1/8 inch plug. Nevertheless, I'd say that the image is serviceable and any loss in quality shouldn't affect gameplay.

One interesting thing about connecting to the PSone screen is that you don't have to disconnect it from the PSone. As long as the screen is plugged in, it will spring to life when it detects a signal coming in through the 1/8 inch input. Haven't tried inputting signal through both the attached PSone and the 1/8 inch cable simultaneously yet.

I was very happy to pick up the combo for only $44.00 at TRU. It was an in-store return that had never been opened, but for some strange reason they marked it down "FROM $149.00, NOW $44.00!" with one of those big, orange stickers.

I've been very happy with it. It is the right size, and I have gotten quite a lot of use playing Tempest X3 and Robotron X on it.

You can use the screen for input from a camcorder too, although that really only makes the screen of the camcorder slightly larger (as the only ones that you can do this with are newer ones, from what I've seen.)
