There is not a whole lot of collectability in 16 bit and newer sports games. You do need them to have "every game" for a system. Classic systems were not as overpopulated with them so they are a little more valuable than newer ones. Go after the complete one only. Thant's how I collect them.

Well, one thing that would help is if they just released a updated roster every year and only released a new game in the series every 2-3 years....but they do more then change the roster, and it brings in too much money for the companies like EA.
If you want to make a sports game collectiable? Companies could do that with 'limited edition' bundles and what not -- say, for example, a 'Super Bowl' version of Madden 2005 signed by players from the Patriots and Panthers. You could make them more collectiable yourself by getting a player to sign it. ;)

Well I hate to agree with soulblazer twice in one day but he is exactly right. When you add up the number of Maddens that come out each year over the lifespan of a system, the number is so much greater than the production run of any non-sports game that it loses any possible collector's value. Non-yearly series games like the Mutant League titles or Tecmo Bowl are somewhat more collectible because they are harder to find. They didn't make a Mutant League Football '93, '94, '95, etc. so if you want that game it will be harder to find then if you wanted a madden game for your genesis. Its a shame that they dont put out as many niche sports titles like Mutant League anymore, unless you count NFL Street or whatever.

I always thought that it would be interesting if one of the companies used different cover athlete's for different areas of the country. Ex: For Madden 200X use a Cowboy's player in the Dallas area, a Niner's player in the San Francisco area, etc.

Limit the production runs on sport titles. That way every Gamestop EB etc. doesn't have 10 copies of each sports game.

If Million starts making sports game again and Atlus publishes them they'll be collectable in a few years.

I totally agree they already do this with sports preview magazines. It would add a varriant to the populated sports title. Its actually a really good idea that I would buy into as a consumer. Personally I don't want a Ray Lewis Manden game. In line with what Jibajaba said I don't think there are enough fun sports games. Meaning games that aren't just sims. Most sports games died the day Tecmo stoped making them. :(

To make sports games collectible, round up a whole truckload of the more common ones (EA Sports) and destroy them.
This might increase the value of the remaining games.
