Ok, I picked up a loose FFII at a saver's a few days ago and I decided to replay the game and I noticed something weird. Cecil does not have his Dark Wave attack. I don't know if I'm missing something....I've tried hitting left/right and it's just defende and switch but I distinctly remember last time I played it, it was a menu option. It's just not there.

Is my cart maybe messed up or did I forget to buy something at the beginning like a different sword? I'm level 16 about to do mount ordeals so it's not like it matters much longer but it's really weird. Any ideas?

That attack is only availabe on the Japanese FF4 on SFC (Hardtype) or the US Chronicles PSX package. Our FF2 is a watered down version of the original Japanese FF4.

No, he never has it as a menu option. He only performs it on the ships in the intro.

ahhhhh, I mustve played the other version on emulation. Thanks for the clarification, it was really confusing me.

With the original FF2 for SNES (which is really FF4), you can't use the Dark Wave attack.

But it IS one of the menu select 'special commands' that is available in the Japanese version of FF4 (Hardtype). So, you can use it on either a translated SNES ROM or Final Fantasy Chronicles for the PSX.

Other charcters in the game also have 'special commands' -- Rydia can Pray for a low level Heal spell, Tella can try to Recall a spell and then use it, Rosa can Aim for 100 percent hit on enemies, etc.

I know Rosa still has Aim in the US version. I don't think it has Pray or Recall, though.

Yeah it defenitely doesn't have recall. Looks like Aim was the only thing that carried over. Man, those were some fast responses =D.

FFChronicles includes FF4j (Hardtype)? Or is it the cheesy American one?

The translated ROM really was good - it was difficult but awesome.

FFC has the Hardtype version. You can actually get the porno mag too. ^^
