I am doing a bit of research for MMORPG games (Massively multiplayer online RPG), and the social aspect of the game.

If any of you guys know of prestigious Everquest guilds, can you link me to their site(s) please?

Thanks

IF you're talking original everquest guilds, they're pretty hard to come by now. I daresay the game is virtually dying.

For EQ2 however - http://www.eqii.com
Check the forums out there.

EQ is far from dead. It's a complete different game now, but it's definitely not over.

Ascent, Rodcent Nife

Legacy of Steel

Fire of Heaven (now moving on to WoW by Furor's bitch ass weight he throws around in the genre)

Afterlife, the biggest guild in the game has already quit.

Those are the 4 biggest I can remember, from worst to best.

Been so long sense I even looked into the old EQ forums and Web haunts like Allakazam that when I went looking for old guild web pages I found them all to be dead.

Guess Sony finally broke the game enough to kill it.

I think from a business standpoint, Sony and Verant did a fantastic job keeping people addicted to the game for 6 years. They got tons of people to come back after certain expansions, and for a long time they kept the end game interesting for the truely addicted folk.

Now they just have too much time put into EQ2 to bother balancing EQ anymore.

What really blows though, is that NO MMORPG will ever capture the feeling EQ had, because the hardcore power-players are going to invade the shit out of every one that comes out, and they'll rape the endgame a month after launch. No mystique, no exploring, no interest unless you're one of those people.

Such a shame, because I'd LOVE to play WoW casually and just explore it at my own pace with a group of friends, but Blizzard is going to be far too busy catering to the assholes at the end game to make my game enjoyable.

Of course, if you're looking at the game's history in total, look no further than the Fires of Heaven. No other guild that I know of in any other online game that I've played so far has managed to achieve and hold such a level of fame(or infamy) for the time that they did. Like em or hate em, they were the first to do alot of things early in and throughout much of the game's history. Of course some would argue that they were also the most boisterous of the "Uber Guilds", and for that many people were pretty glad when they finally lost their place as the top guild in the game at the moment. Me, I've played this game on and off over the years since it's release, mostly off. So I'd often find myself checking out the latest screenshots and stories off of their site to see what the latest things that were happening in the game, and for the longest time this was really the only place I needed to go. The commentary was also entertaining much of the time, though near the end it was mostly dominated by problems Furor had with the game itself, be it mechanics, balance, or what have you, and most of the time it was hard to argue with the points made. But, overall, I would have to say that was the most recognized guild to cross EQ, and now like was just said, many of the top guilds are quitting, so that statement may hold water until the game itself ends.
