View Full Version : Um Jammer Lammy - I thought this was supposed to be good?

I've heard this title discussed often, so when I saw it in the store, I grabbed it.
At first I thought it was kinda neat, but that quickly wore off. The first two songs are good, albeit plagued with Engish mumbling, and then the soundtrack turns to crap. (Liking the songs you are hearing over-and-over-and-over is a crucial aspect imho.) And the skill level is insane. I couldn't get past the Crying Babies part until I switched to the easy setting. Finally, the game was waaaaay too short. Yeah I was happy the game finally ended, but only 7 songs? That's it?!? Lame.
Bottom Line: I'm glad I only spent $10 on this.

I dunno, I found this one to be a bit too easy. YMMV. :)

Thing is, once you win the game, you can play through as PaRappa, and the storyline AND music change to reflect the new character. There's a lot of depth in this one that's not apparent at first glance. 'Course, if you don't dig it to begin with, it's probably a moot point.
Me? I love this game. :)

i think its a cool game.i like the fact that your playing a electric guitar instead of rapping.i wish they would of made a electric guitar controller for it,that would have been cool.i do think parappa the rapper for the ps1 is a little better, but unjammer is still a fun game.

I've never differed in opinion with anyone on anything as much as this with you. That is all.

Huh. I really liked Umjammer Lammy. 2nd best music game ever, second only to the Music game god that is Gitaroo-man.

Hmm, I loved this game, and I thought it was way too easy as well. Especially after playing the first Parappa game, I mean, this game was a cake-walk then.

I'll give it a 2nd try before I sell it, but I have my doubts a replaying will change my opinion. I prefer Space Channel 5-1 & 5-2 which has the same "style" but 10 times better with songs/words that are actually GOOD.
And yes it was hard. I found the Baby Hospital level impossible to pass. Too fast-paced, and too many button changes.

Yeah, not every game is for everybody, and Um Jammer is definitely "different".
Personally I loved the game. The only time it seemed hard was when my brain couldn't match up the buttons with the riffs/sounds they were assigned to. I think the key to doing well is understaning what the buttons represent in the song itself. Once you make that connection, the game is a breeze.
I didn't like the music as much as Parappa but it's still fun and quirky. Ultimately I ended up buying the music CD :)
As Antics mentions above, the real joy of the game is playing it thorugh the second time. Far more replay value than Parappa had.
My two meseta.

Gitaroo Man! :rocker:
I thought it was pretty good, too hard for me, I could never QUITE make it past the airplane level, but then, I really SUCK at music based games, so that's no surprise.

I thought Um Jammer was an excellent game. The "duel" mode multiplayer really added depth too.
And, it's way more on beat then Space Channel Five is. The only was I could play SC5 was to turn off the sound, because the music screwed me up.

QUESTIONS
- What is the auto-play code for this game?
- Is this game considered "cel-shaded"?

I loved that game! I bought it for $20, but STUPIDLY sold it. That was in the days of my videogame selling days, thank god I realized how many bad decisions I made regarding that. If you are looking to sell it... :D
Its not really cel-shaded its just like... Paper-made. Cartoon Cutouts is the best way to put it I guess.

UJL is a great game, but like all the "Rhythm Action" games it gets old pretty fast. Lammy has what, 13 songs total? The FIRST DDR game on the PS2 has at least 6 times as many.

Wow, I had no idea. I'll have to give it a 2nd try. I really disliked it at first.

This isn't what's meant by cel shading. Cel shading is a way of rendering 3d graphics, not simply cartoon-style 2d.

Like Paper Mario...flat 2D polygons.
So, how about that auto-play code?

Ain't no auto-play code. Only Rhythm Action game with an auto-play code is Space Channel 5 (and probably the sequel)
