Can anyone help me settle a bet?

One thing I loved about my SNES was how it kept getting support, although on reduced levels, even after the PSX, Saturn, and N64 had come out in the States. Long after the Genesis had been yanked, 1996-1998 saw a small ammount of games released for the system, and I happily looked out for those when shopping for PSX and N64 games.

I got into a discussion with a friend and we made a bet -- what was the last SNES game released in the States by anyone?

We're both sure of the year -- 1998 -- but we're not sure of the game. He thinks its a verison of Zoop. I say it's a port of Sim City 2000.

With the online guide here down, and incompleete and conflicting information online, I'm looking for expert help. :D

Frogger...I remember because for a few nintendo power issues there was nothing for SNES, and then all of a sudden, Frogger.

Now the question is, what was the 2nd to last release? I want to say Space Invaders or the Atari Arcade's Greatest Hits, because at that point all they ever released were old arcade games, but I can't be sure.

Frogger didn't come out for the SNES well at least not licened by Nintendo I think.

Wasn't the Majesco release of Frogger the last game for the Genesis, as well? I was surprised that the Genny version was so much better... the SNES game has hardly any music!

Okay, thanks guys.

If Frogger was'nt licenced, though, what was the last licenced game?

Frogger was licesnsed by Nintendo. The only unlicensed game for SNES in the US was Super 3D Noah's Ark from Wisdom Tree.

Yep, it was Frogger.

Zoop and Sim City 2000 came out earlier (1995-1996 I'd say).

I know it wasn't the last game, but Lost Vikings II was a late release (sometime in 1997, don't know the exact month), and I was wondering...what's up with the copyright of '95? It says that right after you start up the game, but the gameplay coincides with the PC and Playstation releases (just not graphically or musically), and the first Lost Vikings game was released in '93...so, you could say I'm a bit stumped on the issue. They didn't happen to have a rejected sequel before Lost Vikings II, did they?

Oh yeah, I'll agree that Frogger was the last offical release, and, to try to help answer ubersaurus's question, I'll add that the SNES version of Space Invaders was released at about the same time as Kirby's Dream Land 3 (Nov. 1997, if memory serves me right), but that's about all I have on the subject. Much of the later releases were just attempts to get a few more dollars from the old console, so they sure aren't remembered well, at least to me.

Was'nt Frogger the last game released for the Genesis in 1996 also? :hmm:

Lol talk about the speculation @_@

The final offical game released was Fire Emblem 5 Tracchia 776 Limited edition and was released in japan on the 01/09/99 <- testament 89 you were right :)

Hope that clears everything up :)

Nintendo's system lists have been proven on numerous occaisions to not be 100% accurate. Zoop came out YEARS ago.

Tip #1: Don't believe Nintendo's lists ever. At all.

Also, I do remember, in the US it was Frogger. I remember that issue of NP.

Frogger was the last game released for Genesis, in 1998.

I'm glad this post was made, I was wondering too. I was thinking Sim City 2000 or NBA Live 98.

I believe that's why my friend thought Zoop was the last SNES game -- because we saw it on Nintendo's list. I know from coming here, though, that it's not always accurate. :D

I would have SWORN I did'nt see Sim City 2000 in stores until 1998, though......

So Frogger was the last game released for both the SNES AND GENESIS? WOW! What a way to kill two great systems -- release awfull ports of a arcade game done a million times allready.

No, Super Mario RPG wasn't last. As has already been stated in this thread, Frogger was the last US release (And it was licensed even though someone in this thread said it wasn't).

The Genesis version was a virtually arcade-perfect port. Not the worst way it could've gone out...

But i'm still not clear on if there was actually a 2000 release of Frogger.....?

I know it got Majesco'd, but what year was it when it did ?

I always thought Timon & Pumbaa was the last one.....

None of the Super Famicom Fire Emblem games got a US release. While Thracia 776 is one of the most valuable SFC games, I don't think it was the last one... SFC release trickled out of Nintendo for quite some time in Japan.

"But i'm still not clear on if there was actually a 2000 release of Frogger.....?

It was the only original Majesco release, and it came out in 1998.

"I always thought Timon & Pumbaa was the last one....."

That saw a Majesco rerelease, but the original came out years earlier, all Majesco did besides bringing Frogger to the system was rerelease SNES titles done by other companies earlier in the system's lifespan.

IGN lists the publish date of Frogger by Majesco as October 6, 1998.

here is a list of some of the VERY LAST snes games that were released from 96 on out:

1996:
Cold Shadow
Ardy Lightfoot
Power Piggs
Incantation
Realm
S.O.S
Prehistorik Man
NBA Hangtime
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Mortal Kombat 3
Donkey Kong Country 3
Mario RPG
Kirby Super Star
some form of Tetris i believe

1997:
Madden 98
NBA Live 98
NHL 98
Harvest Moon
Lost Vikings 2
and the dozen of arcade conversions mention earlier along with Arkanoid Doh It Again

1998:
Frogger

I know this list isn't 100% accurate as there were a lot more titles released between those years but i figured this would be able to somewhat help.

I have Frogger...it had absolutely no music, not even the little intro theme. Would it have killed them to put that in? :hmm:
