My buddy just got a $15,000 printer that can make bumper stickers and posters and lots of other things. So I started making posters of the maps of Metroid and Zillion using the screen shots of the games. Kind of a waste of time but they look great and are very useful and was wondering if any one else would like copies of these posters. Also if you had ideas of other games I should do this for and if any one wanted to help with the images. I always wanted good quality posters of these maps I figured maybe you guys did too. Let me know I could use help.

That's a cool idea.

I made a couple Metroid maps for a friend of mine, but it was using my crappy inkjet printer. He took the pages to Kinkos and had them cut to fit and laminated together.

Your idea would have just saved alot of time, and looked alot better. :-P

what game maps do you think would make good posters? ZELDA maybe? Please give input and I will try to figure out how to post a picture here of the final product. Remember that I'm only familiar with 8 and 16 bit games and will probably only take interest in those ideas. Also I'm not interested in making a profit but only in sharing such cool posters with my fellow gamers. I would hate to think I wasted all this time only for my own enjoyment. Also may be we could get a list of who would like copies of what posters.

I'd be interested in cool posters of more niche games (ones you can't buy professional posters of). But, I wouldn't want maps, I'd be more interested in like art or logos from the games.

I got some questions. How large would these posters be, and what's the expected cost per piece?

Some games I'd be interested in screenshot maps of:

Wonderboy III: Dragon's Trap,
Super Metroid

Super Metroid is a good choice ! And as far as cost gpes maybe a dollar plus shipping. And these would be full size like a movie poster or something like that. I should have titled this topic "would you like one" rather than "would you buy one". Also for additional games I'll need help finding maps made up of the screen shots or help making map from the screen shots.

Also please post links here for any sites that have screenshot maps of games that you would like a poster of. Do you think it would be o.k. to use maps that people have made and posted to the net or should I ask their permission for such a small project.

Is there any chance that you can do posters of box art too? Not all games have maps. :)

This is my friends business so I don't know if that would be a copy right issue. At some point I will post in the "buying and selling forum" and when I learn the answer I will address it there and p.m. you, but for right now my major concern is getting ideas for all the maps and help finding/making them.

Thats really cool. You guys should make some posters and stuff for popular games and sell them on ebay. (if its legal...)

Ah, jeez, if you start making posters, sign me up. There are so many posters I want, but I can never find.

Actually, making custom posters would be fun as hell too.

I was considering putting together a poster of the Metroid map just a few days ago. I'd love one, PM me if you can set me up.

A Zillion map would be hardcore if you could get all the codes on there...but some are randomly generated, right?

It's probably not legal, but lots of people make fortunes off of selling illegal stuff on eBay, so it probably wouldn't be a problem with eBay itself. However, PLEASE make it clear that you're selling fan-made posters, or you're gonna get in a heap of trouble. There are legitimate, official posters out there, and there are people who collect them. There are many sellers who sell official posters, and buyers pay big bucks for lots of them (due to the fact that most are promotional). There's nothing that irks both sellers and buyers more than people who sell bootleg or fan-made products as if they're official products.

Would you be able/willing to do box-art posters? I'd love a 2' x 3' poster of the box-art of a few NES games. Castlevania is on the top of my want list.

I don't think it matters rolling out a few posters for you guys of box art but my buddy says NO. Copyright issues I guess. I will continue to work on posters of maps for the following games for the moment:

1. metroid (regular and secret areas)
2. zelda (overworld and one with the different levels)
3. zillion

when these are done I will make extras for who ever wants one check back in a week or two and I will post pictures and let you know what's up.

p.s you can help by making a screenshot map of the "secret areas" of metroid. If this sounds like something you have experience doing please let me know. AND SUPER METROID also. In fact if you have made ANY screenshot maps of any games let me know. I should have used something better in the subject line of my topic sorry if I disappointed any one.

Metroid doesn't have secret areas. Those are programming bugs which produce graphical garbage. i.e. SNAFUs.

I'd like to see a Pitfall 2 map or a Castlevania map, but I don't want to waste cash on a poster. I'll just stick with the JPEG image.

TheRedEye

Yeah, I explained the garbage data a bit in a PM too. If you're tacking on garbage to the Metroid map, I don't want it.

Wow! What a great idea!

I've got a great Solstice map I made...it's really screenshots of the subscreen map all put together, so it's a complete map of the game....I can send it to ya, but if it's to be profited from, I'd probably want a cut. :-) It took many, many hours to do. However, if you wanted a screenshot map of the screens of the rooms themselves, I don't have one of those.

I've also got one I made for Rygar for NES, but I actually took the screenshot maps from another site and put them all into one, so I'd hate to infringe on someone else's work. I'll gladly send it to anyone who wants it though.

As for other games, if I could see a jpeg or something of how the posters are going to look, and their dimensions, I'd definitely want to look into buying some. Also, if you wanted to charge a different amount for the jpeg only versions, I would probably be interested in that for certain games too...especially obscure ones that have difficult to find maps.

GOOD LUCK mapping all the metroid secret worlds...man that sounds like a hellish job.

Wouldn't Maps be a copyright issue also, considering that Digital Media is copyrighted for 75 years and video games havent been around that long?
