Probably somewhere inbetween. They aren't arcade perfect but there still pretty good. You'll have a little loading times but nothing really bad from what I remember. KOF 96 and 97 use the 1MB Ram Cart.

KOF 95 uses a special RAM Cart made only for that game. KOF95 also only works on a Japanese or switch modded Saturn.

You can generally get them for about $10.00 each on average.

are they anywhere as bad as the way Kof 99 looks on PS1?

i know its not king of fighters, but since it has some of the same characters, real bout fatal fury best collection for saturn kicks ass!!i have the jap import of it,and all you need to play it on an american saturn is a action replay or some other converter.you dont need a ram cart to enjoy this one,and its great.its got two disk, real bout, and real bout special, and in the opitions, you can even set the dialog to english.i know its a fighter and you dont need to read what they say at the end of the battle, but its still cool to do.its got great, almost arcade perfect graphics, and the music and sound is great.the gameplay is right on as well.i dont know how much it is going for,as i bought it several years ago for $60.00 brand new.but,i would think you could pick up a copy of it for a good price.

I've never played any of the PSX KOFs but I assume it's better.

Yeah, they're much better than the PSX ports. They're pretty good, but they have their issues. However, if you can't afford a MVS, AES, or Neo CD, the Saturn ports are your best option (and the Dreamcast ports for the later games).
