View Full Version : Ever leave a game running in demo mode for ambience?

I'm the kind of person who needs to have "background noise" to relax. I sleep better when the TV is on, I concentrate better with music, and my mind often races out of control when it's completely silent (yes, those men in the white coats WILL find me someday).

So often, when I'm occupied with physical things like packing boxes, straightening up around the house, painting, ironing, etc. I'll throw in a game that can run without too much repetition in demo mode. I'm talking about games like ESPN NFL2k5 where a game will just start up and play by itself while the machine is on.

Am I alone in this quirky exhibit of videogame fanaticism? If not, have you found games that provide a good background ambience (or "noise")?

I shure do. Sometimes if I feel tired butcant sleep I'll turn on my PS2 and go to the browser. Peace full waves ahhhh. Or if I'm cleaning or something to that effect, I'll throw in a fighting game and listen to the demos play. Sometimes I even go to the BGM and listen to some game music.

I also can't sleep without the TV or radio on in the background. I have left GT3 run a few times while doing other things. 8-)

I used to leave a random arcade game running on mame while I was away from my computer.

It was nice, almost felt like I had a cab somewhere in my room

If we're entertaining guests , I will to turn on my MAME cabinet with a game that has a semi-noisy attract mode like Galaga. The sound eventually draws curious company to my office (hence the term "attract mode") where I then have an excuse to play the machine as opposed to sitting with the ladies looking through scrapbooks LOL

Soul Calibur 2 is a good one to keep running.

I do it all the time. Sometimes I'll leave a sports game playing CPU vs CPU as background noise while I'm working.

Wow this is the right topic at the right time. Just yesterday I got my Odyssey 2 in the mail and used it to get my other one fixed. My friends were over and were playing a few games, I was playing "Thunderball" and when I had a game over the demo goes on endless. Althought the sound effects would be a bit tedious afterwhile with the sound down/off I wanted to make it a pc screensaver.

I used to leave Bust A Groove playing a lot, I liked the music. Haven't done it in a long time but I'm in the mood to leave TMNT Turtles In Time (Arcade) running....I love that Pizza Power song. :)

My friend Derek's done that with the gamecube menu screen song...I guess after he had surgery last year, he was on painkillers, and playing that song helped him relax even more. So now he does it to relax.

I know I've left F-Zero GX running before just to hear the music while I do stuff.

I like to do that as well, mainly with Silkworm, Battle Squadron, Paradroid 90 and Xenon 2 (primarily for the music ^^)

This topic makes me more relaxed, I tought I was the only one who sleeps with the TV on. I sure do leave some games in demo mode, like Samurai Shodown for MVS or Snatcherfor Sega CD, I like the ambience their music creates in my room.

Absolutely. Ecco the Dolphin on the Sega CD is 100% geared for demo mode bliss-outs. Such an outstanding soundtrack on that game...

i like to have background noise (ie mp3s on my comp playing through my surround sound stereo) on when i am sleep, and i like to just have slightly loud music on when i am just sitting around

my bedtime favorites right now is the Punchline cd Action and the Maroon 5 cd Songs About Jane and the Bowling For Soup cd Drunk Enough To Dance

try "The New Tetris" on the N64 without any controllers plugged in. The visuals and music are way cool.

Yep. I let Nascar Thunder 2004 sit and play through demo mode sometimes. I just love the way the game looks from all the different camera angles.

When I was in college, I left SNES Street Fighter 2 on constantly.

Actually the attract mode fights were programmed to end in a couple of seconds, so I set a Pro-Action replay to freeze the time and thus every computer demo "fight" was played to completion :D

You gotta realize this was my last year of college. I had gone 6 years and all my friends had split. So I was very lonely LOL

Back in the day i would watch the intro to FF3 and chrono trigger just for the hell of it. They were (still are) awesome! I also would just seat in the forest near the castle in chrono trigger and listen to the music. Hay it beats buying the soundtrack.

My screensaver is a Pac-Man/Space Invaders demo screen. It draws a lot of attention at work! LOL

At home I don't do demo modes much, but I will sometimes leave the Soul Edge/Blade running. That's a VERY cool music video, and the fights are fun to watch.

I like to keep River City Ransom running sometimes, because that game has some kick ass music. I sure wish it had an OST.
