Which PS1 Madden Football to get?

I have a PS1 with only a few games for it and I decided to get a Madden football game. The question is, which one? Should I get the latest Madden or should I get one of the older ones? In other words, which is the best Madden to play? Now I don't have much experience with sport games (limited to Realsports games on a 2600) and so I don't want anything too complicated and so a version of the Madden football game that is easier to learn would be preferred.

I really didn't like any of the PS1 Madden games. I suggest getting Tecmo Super Bowl for the PS1 it was also the last of the Tecmo Bowl games.

If the brain serves correctly it would be either Madden 98 or Madden 2000. But best to ask Dangerboy or Queen Of Felines cause im sure they are more full of the carnal knowledge that I am in regards to Madden.

I would say to to get 2005 when it comes out next month. Not only will it be one of the last games released for the PlayStation, but should be produced in somewhat low ammounts and could actually be worth some money, someday. :)

Get whichever one you can get for a buck. There's no reason you should pay more than that. LOL

I'm constantly amazed by the huuuuuuuuuge crowd of people that absolutley HAS TO BUY THE NEXT MADDEN OR OTHER SPORTS TITLE THE VERY FIRST DAY IT COMES OUT BECAUSE OH MY GOD ITS GOING TO BE SO MUCH BETTER AND ITS GOING TO PWNZ LAST YEARS WHICH TOTALLY SUCKED UNTIL NEXT YEAR WHEN THAT YEAR IS GOING TO TOTALLY PWNZ THIS YEARS!!!!!!!

Seriously... it's the SAME GAME. Minor graphical tweaks, new player rosters, and some new annoying modes that they put in to assuage their guilt at ripping people off...

New sports titles should be expansion packs, not $50 games lol

Personal favorite madden ever was madden 98 for the PS1.
Sure they get better every year by one micron, but that's the one I played the most and had the most fun with.

I think you can get every football game for the PS1 for like ten bucks. Do that.

If you just want to play some football, and don't care about graphics or rosters, (like me) just get one of the older ones. Otherwise, get 2004 or 2005.

I would get on of the older ones first like `98. First it'll be significantly cheaper. Secondly it would let you see if you'll actually like this kind of thing before opting to drop $40 or so on whatever game sports the latest-and-greatest roster.

There are apparently also a couple of football titles out there for PS1 and PS2 (names escape me, sorry...can anyone help?) which play similar to the more popular titles, but they use fictional teams, thereby being cheaper to you since the deveoplers don't have to pay a huge license fee to the NFL. They also don't share the ephemeral nature of the big annual EA titles.

I was hoping there would be a PS1 release of Madden 2005. Need to get a copy of that for my brother-in-law in Iraq...

I second 98. It was the most playable of all the Maddens on PS1. It is one of the few PS1 Maddens that I keep and still play with a few friends once and a while.

Are you serious? Have you ever played TSB on the PS One??? My god man, that one is right down there wtih NFL Full Contact for the worst of the football bunch on the console.

Totally serious. Have you played any of the Madden games on the PS One? They were all a joke until they got to the PS2. While TSB on the PS One is still the worst of the TSB games it is still far more playable than any of the Maddens.

I own '98 and 2004 :( I didn't expect a 2005... I'll be picking that one up an d then losing out as I sell of 2004 which I paid $29.99 for ... :(

While I never played '98, I think that was before they went to polygonal players (or it was the first one with them), so it may not look as good as later versions. I remember '99 having a slow frame rate that was fixed in 2000, which was the last one I played. I would guess that the last few years' editions have been more or less the same game, as the developer's focus is on the newer consoles.
