I myself find rather pathetic that those old games are $29.99 (I live in canada) I got my Nes with 5 games for $20 for godsake talk about ripoff for the Nes classic series.

The difference here is that they are now PORTABLE. And that is the only reason many people see them worth the money. Because they can take their old favorites anywhere. Already have the NES cart and an NES? Fine.. Play it, but try taking it on the bus or to school or work. $20 seems steep, but for some games, I think it's totally worth it. SOME games. Not all mind you.

ZELDA II is a classic. One of the best game 'music' ever is in the palaces. People don't like it because it veered away from the rest of the series, though there was only one game before it? Then again, I guess this is similar to those who dislike Metroid Prime for being a FPS, or SMB2 (USA) or Yoshi's Island.

ZELDA II was my first NES game other than SMB/DH, too... :lol Not that it had much to do with it, as I came to appreciate the game much later on...

Now that the new classics NES series games are in stores, who's getting what?

I don't have the money to spend right now, so I won't be getting anything right away, but Castlevania looks like a nice future purchase.

Which reminds me, if you buy one at Circuit City, you get a free T-shirt with it this week

Some random thoughts:

- You can play most of these games using a flash cart. (Most is the key word here. More on that below.) Having 100 classic NES games on one cart makes these single releases too prehistoric and cost prohibitive for me to even consider. BTW, before anyone flames me for mentioning a flash cart, I should point out that I got one at the urging of people on this very board. :)

- Zelda II is crap IMO. I realize that some of you feel differently, and I even respect that Nintendo took such a big risk with the game, but the end result was very disappointing as far as I'm concerned. With that said, it's impossible to find fault with the choice of this as a GBA NES Classics Series game. With the previous GBA releases of Zelda 1 and LTTP (Zelda 3), it only makes sense that Zelda II would also make it to the system. For purists, it must be nice to have portable versions of the first three Link games.

- Would I like more than one game per cart and cheaper prices? Of course. Who wouldn't? But like someone pointed out above, you have to realize that being able to play these games PORTABLY is an opportunity that most of us haven't had before, so the $20 price tag really ISN'T all that ridiculous. People say that $20 is too much for something that isn't new, but it IS new. The portable aspect makes it new.

- I'd love to see Punch-Out and Rad Racer released for GBA's NES Classics Series. They are probably the two highest profile NES games that don't work well with PocketNES (the NES emulator used for flash carts).

Kid Icarus (aka Palutena no Kagami) is in the Japanese series 3 for those of you that need your fix of Pit.

Kid Icarus is probably not coming out right now because Nintendo would have to transfer the original US game pak to the GBA, since there are quite a few cosmetic (and one big non-cosmetic) differences between the US and Japan releases.

As part of a moral obligation, I must buy all four at one point or another.

I already have Dr. Mario on hold.

I wish I could get into Metroid. But even if I could, I'd probably prefer Zero Mission. It's the same thing.

Zelda II = Bah

Castlevania: See Metroid above..

I'm crossing my fingers and holding my breath for Tetris. I want to switch to my DS from my SP and I only have the original Tetris which won't work in a DS. Bah.. And Tetris Worlds just ain't the same. Same with Dragon Warrior.

I won't be buying any of them since I have all of the original versions except for Dr. Mario, and I can get that for $5 at the EB near my school.

So, finally, to add to what I've posted before in this thread, I'll get Castlevania on top of Zelda II. No Metroid (I have Zero Mission AND I've unlocked it on Metroid Prime) or Dr. Mario.

Oh, and if they ever do go on and release Baseball Stars, I'm so getting it!!!

I am going to try and get all 4 this week, but if I can't I eventually will in the next couple months or so. I am really wanting Castlevania and Link the most!!! I think I'll go tonight and pick them up.

I can download Dr. Mario into my GBA at any time (thank you Nintendo Preview GC disc!), and I've already got Metroid on Zero Mission. I will buy Castlevania (since it's the only Castlevania game I've never played) and I will buy Zelda II eventually, just because it's Zelda.
Does anyone know if someplaces will start clearancing out the older NES Choice series now that the new ones are out? I'll have to check the local stores sometime this week...

Circuit City was clearing out Bomberman, Xevious and Ice Climber a while ago for $9.96 each.

Say what you will about Zelda 2.. But that game still screams hardcore Nintendo quality from that era.

It's really not that hard but it takes a little bit of PLAYING it to get good at it

DEFINATELY!

It does just take some time to get used to the playing mechanics.

Hell yes, we all pretty much would.

Do all the games in Series #2 have battery backup like the games in Series #1 did? Zelda II obviously must, but it'd be great to finally play a game of Castlevania from where I left off instead of having to start over from the beginning every time.
