I guess this would go here? x_x

I was wondering, how much are the older video game magazines worth? How much would a first issue of Nintendo Power, EGM, Gamepro, etc. go for? Anyone have any specific prices? :)

Pretty much cover prices or less. To get collectible prices," you gotta go back further. Electronic Games, Blip, Diehard Gamefan, and such. Early Nintendo Powers may be worth a few bucks depending on the game. But anything SNES and later - zilcho.

I collect Game Players and Sega Visions magazines. I have rarely paid more than a dollar each for them (shipped). The most I've spent on a single magazine was $3.20 shipped - some random Game Players with Sonic and Mega Man X on the cover. Basically, they're not worth too much (though, if you have either of the mentioned mags for sale, then you might have a cheap buyer here ;) ).

Basically, nothing, there worth more to collectors just for the simple fact that they are cool to have....although collectors themselves will rarely pay over a few bucks an issue.

and on that note...I collect Nintendo Power! :)

Yeah I collect GameFan (best mag ever) , I have almost every issue from when I was a subscriber, and the ones I've bought otherwise ran me 1-3 bucks

Depends on whether or not they're professionally framed.

For NES+ era magazines, the first year's worth usually sells for more and then tapers off from there. EGM, NP and GamePro are regular items on eBay while Game Players and VG&CE is a rare thing to find there (so one may pay more for them).

I like to collect the older nintendo powers; I am trying to get all of the first 50 issues and strat guides. I am missing only around 15 of em. My advice would be to buy a big lot of them on ebay or something. You can sometimes get em really cheap, but shipping may be alot. I got like 25 issues for 20$ total; shipping cost about 10$.

Also, look around at local flea markets. These are the types of things that people consider to be total garbage and will sell dirt cheap.

A couple months ago I bought 95 Nintendo Power issues for 50 bucks on eBay. I got lucky because the seller was in a nearby town, so shipping was just around 11 bucks. It was every issue from volume 10 to 100-something.

So yeah, most magazines aren't that valuable. I personally wouldn't recommend paying more than a buck per issue on Nintendo Power unless you're getting the issues from the first year.

I´ve been trying to hunt down the premiere issue of NIntendo Power on Ebay. But so far no luck...it usually ends over 15-20 US.

I still need the 6 first issues of DP :(

I'm still trying to find some early issues of EGM (:D SEE SIG :D)....of the few i've got i never paid more than a couple of bucks a piece for them.

I did win a 1st issue of GamePro off Ebay. I was happy untill i noticed it came out before the release of the Genesis and no information for the system :(

I buy Edge magazines whenever I can on ebay. The older issues usually go for 3-5 pounds apiece($5-$8).

The tenth anniversary issues with the right cover(Metroid, Out Run, Street Fighter) have gone for 10-20 pounds each on ebay.

The older GameFan and EGM issues can cost a pretty penny.

The worst however is probably a lot of SEGA SATURN MAGAZINE (SSM). These high quality UK babies are hard to find (esp. an entire set, or majority)

Last year I won an auction for 29 of them for 225 dollars shipped.

Since, there hasn't been an auction for that much. Was it worth it? OH HELL YEAH.

I love picking up old gaming magazines but won't pay more than 2 bucks a peice for em, and if it's info past the 16 bit age I usually don't buy em at all. I would love to have my old 16 bit gamepro issues back, but I haven't been able to find any old gamepros at all. I would also love to have sega visions, gamefan, and the older egms too someday =D.

Hello,

I love magazines to bits and not even I can really get myself to pay a great deal for any individual issue.

There are a great deal of rarities to be found -- location-based exclusives, E3/CES exclusives, mags meant for industry businessmen, the occasional regional mag (looks in the general direction of his stack of Newtype Gamers) -- but the demand isn't there for anything to be very expensive.

I just paid £5 plus postage for Issue 1 of The Official Sautrn magazine, plus cover video.

Don't know if it was worth it, but I wanted to read it, so I stumped up the cash.,

I dunno man but I've seen Joystik mags go easily for 20-50 bucks an issue! :hmm: Kind of makes you wanna sell....

I got every issue of EGM from the 80's on up (and even one issue when they were EGP)... but I don't think I'll be keeping it up. The boxes are friggin huge and heavy... and they've gone to such shit. :|

I've actually seen (in great condition) issue #1 of NP, Gamepro and EGM fetch in the $20 range, but if the condition sucks, forget it. The Issue 1 of EGM is good amount rarer than the other 2 tho.

I too can relate to the pain of having massive, insanely heavy boxes of magazines. Oh how I wish I had bought a bunch of those Nintendo Power magazines holders back in the day. That would make my collection of 'zines look so cool. o_o I wish I had swiped some of the generic magazine holders back when I was still a library shelver. >)

Maybe this belongs in ebay insansity, but it fits here too:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4209136120

$64 for 60 Nintendo Power issues with only 3-4 older than issue #20.

Gah, what a crappy auction. The issues aren't even in sequential order. I would never buy magazines that weren't. It becomes a HUGE pain get the single issues here and there that you're missing.

That's a pretty lousy price too. Considering all the bids, it makes me wonder how I got lucky enough to not have any competition on the auction I won. o_O I got MORE issues for LESS money. Definitely a case of eBay insanity there.

Hmmm, that's weird, though. That auction came with the Super Game Boy book and the Top Secret Players Guide just like mine did. Were those sent to all subscribers at some point?

Top Secret Players Guide was a bonus for getting a subscription. Maybe buy 2 years, get this free sort of thing. I don't know about the Game Boy one though.
